Rachel Baiman Believes in Redemption and Re-building for Humanity Through The ‘Cycles’ of Life on New Album, Out Today (6.11)

“every single lyric and note carries immensely deep, personal profundity” — No Depression

RACHEL BAIMAN BELIEVES IN REDEMPTION AND RE-BUILDING FOR HUMANITY THROUGH THE ‘CYCLES’ OF LIFE ON NEW ALBUM, OUT TODAY (6.11

For two years, Rachel Baiman absorbed the cyclical nature of progress and regression through the lens of her personal experiences, family and society to create a record that candidly delves into the human experience in a way that is as intimate and personal as it is universal. ‘Cycles’ is available everywhere today (6.11) via Signature Sounds.

“Growth, creation, destruction, renewal, rebirth — that’s what this record means to me,” says Baiman. "The belief that redemption and rebuilding is always possible, with greater wisdom, greater kindness, and greater empathy toward oneself and toward others.”

Throughout ‘Cycles,’ Baiman finds optimism in the unique strength of women in her family and herself — and in our nation’s resilient spirit to re-build after a year turmoil. On the title track, she empathizes with the emotional torture of miscarriage and the strength of a woman to try again. “Joke’s On Me” wrestles with career ambition and self-doubt, and Baiman vulnerably shares what she says are the worst parts of herself on “Hope It Hurts,” a peek at the brutal reality and rejection that comes with a career in entertainment. She rebukes racism in America and begs for everyone to see beauty in color on “Wyoming Wildflowers,” which was inspired by the deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, VA. On “Young Love,” romance is personified as a teenager whose coming-of-age journey is anything but a straight path, while album closer “The Distance” serves as a metaphor for reaping what you sow and challenging yourself to rebuild after destruction.

Baiman wrote or co-wrote the entire record with the exception of a Slaid Cleaves and Rod Picott cover (“Rust Belt Fields”). She collaborated with Oh Pep!’s Olivia Hally as a producer and co-writer in Australia, channeling the region's grunge-pop scene and delicately weaving that into her statement-driven indie-folk sound.

Baiman recently wrapped a run of shows with Molly Tuttle and will perform a ‘Cycles’ album release show at Nashville’s City Winery tomorrow, Saturday, June 12th. She’s slated to perform across the U.S. throughout the year with stops in Chicago, Indianapolis and more. She’ll also perform at this year’s Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion festival along with artists like Jason Isbell, Tanya Tucker, Yola, Katie Pruitt and more.
