Secretly congratulates its affiliated companies and trailblazing artists, who earned a total of 15 collective nominations for the 2022 A2IM Libera Awards. The annual event marks the country's largest celebration of independent music, and Secretly is proud to support this year's top nominee, Japanese Breakfast. For their 2021 album Jubilee, released by Secretly Group record label Dead Oceans, the band and multi GRAMMY-nominated project of Michelle Zauner is up for the Libera categories of Record of the Year, Breakthrough Artist/Release, Best Alternative Rock Record, Marketing Genius, Video of the Year, Creative Packaging and Best Live/Livestream Act.
Fellow Secretly Group label Secretly Canadian has also received major recognition for the charitable mission behind its ongoing 25th Anniversary campaign, SC25: Every Light On This Side Of The Town, which is up for this year's A2IM Humanitarian Award. Focused on fighting homelessness in its hometown of Bloomington, Indiana, Secretly Canadian has produced a sprawling series of new music, reissues, creative partnerships and projects over the past year of SC25, uniting a community of artists and fans in a goal to raise $250,000 for the local, gender-inclusive organization, New Hope For Families.
Spanning classical, pop, R&B, rock, sync usage and more, Secretly's 2022 Libera achievements also include nominations for Jagjaguwar recording artists Big Red Machine, Sharon Van Etten and Angel Olsen, as well as a collaboration between Bryce Dessner, Australian String Quartet and Sydney Dance Company released by artist collective 37d03d, plus the latest Dead Oceans-backed albums from shame and Durand Jones & The Indications, and serpentwithfeet's Secretly Canadian-released Deacon.
In addition to Dead Oceans, Jagjaguwar and Secretly Canadian, the Secretly Group of record labels also includes Phoebe Bridgers' Saddest Factory Records, while the larger Secretly ecosystem consists of Secretly Group, Ghostly International, Numero Group, 37d03d, Secretly Publishing and Secretly Distribution. Each of the independent companies are connected by the principal belief that the most important cultural contributions come from artists and the small to medium-sized businesses that support them, and Secretly Distribution extends further congratulations to its label partners Single Lock Records, who earned 2022 Libera nominations for Best Blues and Best Spiritual Record, as well as Sacred Bones, currently up for Label of the Year (Medium).
The 2022 A2IM Libera Awards will take place on June 16th, 2022, as the culmination of A2IM’s Indie Week.
