See Chuck Mead's ''Howling Hillbilly Blues'' On Tour

Chuck Mead, co-founder and front-man of BR549, will release his new solo album ‘Free State Serenade’ on Nashville’s Plowboy Records March 4th. An album of “howling hillbilly blues” (USA Today), the record is based on the stories and legends, crimes and lonesome open road of his childhood and formative years in Kansas. Chuck will tour the album for the next few months including a hometown release show at The Basement in Nashville on 3/5.

Watch him live recently on Music City Roots:

Mead is often hailed as "the hillbilly renaissance man" for his successes as a songwriter, performer, producer, and musical director for the Broadway show Million Dollar Quartet. ‘Free State Serenade,’ Mead’s third solo album was co-produced with Joe Pisapia (kd Lang, Ben Folds Five), features BR549’s Don Herron and Old Crow Medicine Show’s Critter Fuqua, and is backed by his longtime band The Grassy Knoll Boys.
