Sylvan Esso had a remarkable and prolific 2020. The year included the release of their 3rd full-length album Free Love, a feature-length live concert film called WITH, the release of a 6-episode experimental podcast called Shaking Out The Numb, and the WITH LOVEEP that was surprise-released in December.
Today, the duo of Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn has released their 6-track WITH LOVEEP on vinyl, and to celebrate, has announced that tonight their WITH LOVE live concert will stream in its entirety on YouTube. The full concert, which was originally broadcasted for a limited time last December, finds Sylvan Esso transforming and exploring several songs from Free Love with a 10-piece ensemble in thrilling new ways. Joining them is the WITH band, a dream team of players from a tight-knit artistic community that perform with Bon Iver, Wye Oak, Hiss Golden Messenger, Mr. Twin Sister, Hand Habits, and Mountain Man. “We are so happy to revisit making WITH LOVE, it was a shining moment in 2020 for us and a great way to explore our new record in the absence of touring. We can’t wait to get back out, but until it’s safe for everyone we hope this show can make us feel more connected to each other and to you” said Meath.
Amazon Music has also released an exclusive Amazon Original recording and video of Sylvan Esso’s song “H.S.K.T.,” from the WITH LOVE concert. This version of “H.S.K.T.” was released today as part of Amazon Music’s Women’s History Month programming, and Amazon Music listeners can listen to the track and watch the video here or on the Fresh Indie playlist.
The band featured on WITH LOVE is the same ensemble that performed on Sylvan Esso’s pivotal WITH tour in fall of 2019, selling-out multiple nights at historic venues like Beacon Theater and Disney Hall in Los Angeles. Sylvan Esso then released a feature length concert film/documentary of the tour last April, and performed with the WITH band for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert as well.
Sylvan Esso has produced some of indie pop’s most enduring songs in recent years and achieved a career milestone by crossing a half billion streams worldwide. Free Love led to performances on Full Frontal with Samantha Bee and CBS This Morning Saturday, and was deemed “one of the year’s most resonant, warm, necessary albums” by Entertainment Weekly. Their Shaking Out The Numb podcast - a revealing exploration of the creative heartbeat of the duo - was released in November and recently featured in Vulture’s podcast roundup: “I was left with the compulsion to immediately buy the record once I was done with it.”
