The Capitol Theatre Promotes Bruce Wheeler To General Manager

(New York, NY): The Capitol Theatrein Port Chester, New York is honored to announce the promotion of Bruce Wheeler to General Manager. Wheeler, an award-winning event production executive, was previously the theater's Director of Production, hosting an average of 120 events a year and overseeing the venue’s intricate production system. Before The Capitol Theatre, Wheeler was GM of the Central Park Summerstage venue in NYC and acted as tour and production manager for A-list artists including Regina SpektorJimmy Fallon, and Cage The ElephantWheeler follows Tom Bailey, who is now GM of San Francisco’s Peninsula Arts Guild.

“I'm thrilled for the opportunity to head up the amazing staff here at the Cap,” says Wheeler. “The history of this room is unparalleled, the job is as much of a caretaker of its legacy as it is GM. The team that Peter Shapiro has built here is second-to-none, and I’m appreciative of his desire and devotion to have the Capitol Theatre continue to be one of the premiere touring and event destinations in the northeast."

Before making the move into production, the New Jersey native built a foundation on the record label side spending time at Caroline, MCA, and J Records, as well as studying Entertainment Marketing at NYU. Bruce also is a graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America and worked for various properties, including Windows on the World and the Hard Rock Cafe. He lives in West New York, NJ with his wife, Rosita.

“I first met Bruce when he was General Manager at Central Park Summerstage and I was on the board,” says Peter Shapiro. “Every time I attended a show, he was there with a firm handshake and a warm smile and hello. It sounds like a simple thing, but not everyone does that every time you see them. That’s how we like to do things at the Capitol. With a smile, every time. Combine that with Bruce’s decades of production knowledge and experience, both on the road and in venues, and he’s the perfect person to take the reins from the esteemed Tom Bailey and make magic happen at The Capitol Theatre.”

About The Capitol Theatre

Designed by celebrated architect Thomas Lamb in 1926 and listed in The National Register of Historic Places, The Capitol Theatre is located 30 miles from NYC, accessible by I-95 and only one block from the Port Chester Metro-North train station. The 2,000-capacity theater, known as “the original rock palace,’ showcased rock legends such as Traffic, the Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa, Black Sabbath, Chuck Berry, David Bowie, Derek and the Dominos, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd, and The Rolling Stones. Jerry Garcia once called it his favorite venue, claiming “See, there’s only two theaters, man… that are set up pretty groovy all around for music and for smooth stage changes, good lighting and all that – the Fillmore and The Capitol Theatre. And those are the only two in the whole country.”
