The Capitol Theatre Promotes Emily Schmalholz To Head of Special Events

Hires Special Events Sales Manager Lauren Northey

The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York is honored to announce the promotion of Emily Schmalholz to Head of Special Events. Schmalholz, who started her tenure there in January of 2015, was previously Director of Special Events for the theater and its inner-sanctum bar and music club, Garcia’s. Lauren Northey, who was previously with the company in a part-time capacity, has also officially joined the team full-time as Special Events Sales Manager. 

“We’re excited to have Emily as our Head of Special Events,” said The Capitol Theatre General Manager Bruce Wheeler. “The Cap is mostly known as a concert hall, but with Emily’s help we also excel at putting on all sorts of private parties and corporate events. Her years of experience and network of contacts has us plugged in to not only great clients but top planners and vendors throughout the region. And, she has just added Lauren Northey to her team. Lauren has been working in various roles in The Cap and we’re so pleased that she has become a part of our full-time events team."

Emily Schmalholz’s love of music took root during her time at Emerson College, where she studied mass communications and worked at the radio station. She went on to spend seven years as a television producer at VH1, before creating her own independent event planning company Life of the Party Productions and working at Grand Prix New York and the New York Botanical Garden. She comes from a showbiz family, with her mother working in theatre and the arts most of her life. Schmalholz has produced some of The Capitol Theatre’s largest private events and has partnered with charities like Big Brother, Big Sister and important corporations like Netflix. A born-and-raised New Yorker, she now resides in Armonk, New York near The Capitol Theatre with her husband and two sons.

After spending years planning custom luxury getaways around the globe, Lauren Northey pressed pause on the professional life to focus on her newborn at home. In 2012, she began feeding her passion for rock’n’roll by volunteering for The Capitol Theatre’s Street Team, officially joining the Cap staff as a bartender in 2018. After becoming a team member, Lauren started lending a hand in multiple departments at the theatre - from special events and pop-up merch boutiques to “under-the-marquee jams” and livestream benefits. Her hospitality background combined with a love for creating memorable celebrations makes her perfect for this new role.

 

ABOUT THE CAPITOL THEATRE

Designed by celebrated architect Thomas Lamb in 1926 and listed in The National Register of Historic Places, The Capitol Theatre is located 30 miles from NYC. The 2,000-capacity theater, known as “the original rock palace,” showcased legends such as Traffic, The Grateful Dead, Black Sabbath, Chuck Berry, David Bowie, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd, and The Rolling Stones. Jerry Garcia called it one of his two favorite venues in the USA. In 2012, the theatre underwent a major renovation under the guidance of music entrepreneur Peter Shapiro. Since then, it has hosted major performers including Bob Dylan, Phil Lesh, Ringo Starr, Joan Baez, Skrillex, Bonnie Raitt, Snoop Dogg, Kacey Musgraves, The Strokes, Tom Petty, Cyndi Lauper, and Willie Nelson, as well as comedians like Kevin Hart and Amy SchumerThe New York Timesraves: “A rock theater that looks and sounds as good as the Capitol is something to celebrate." The Capitol’s inner-sanctum bar and music club, Garcia’s, was named for Jerry Garcia in partnership with his family. A venue of its own, Garcia’s showcases local artists and nationally touring acts across the musical spectrum.
