LOS ANGELES, CA – The Nacelle Company, the studio behind Netflix’s The Movies That Made Us, The Toys That Made Us, Behind The Attraction for Disney+ and the Emmy Award winning Down To Earth with Zac Efron have announced they’ve acquired the iconic toy brand, Marx Toys, with plans to revamp the magic of Marx and showcase its notable properties by developing a collection of books and other lifestyle products. This company also retains film and television rights with this deal.
This announcement comes on the heels of the company’s recent acquisitions of the beloved franchises, Robo Force and Power Lords, as well as their deal with Super7 to revive the iconic animated series, SilverHawks. Nacelle has already secured deals with Funko and Super7 to manufacture toys and merchandise for many of their recently acquired franchises and started development on several television series aimed at bringing these classic characters to life.
Through the 1950s and 1960s it would have been almost impossible to find an American child that hadn’t played with something produced by the Marx Toy Company. In fact, Marx Toys was so popular that in 1955 Time Magazine named Co-Founder Louis Marx the “Toy King” of America. Marx’s success was largely due to his aggressive approach to mass producing high-quality toys and offering them at very low prices. That policy earned Marx the titles of “The Henry Ford of the Toy Industry”. He was also the first to be inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame.
Marx Toys served as a cultural barometer of the times. During the height of the global ‘space race’, interest in Science Fiction toys skyrocketed, so naturally, Marx capitalized by offering up a slew of Sci-Fi centric toys meant to nurture children’s imaginations.
Some notable properties developed by Marx include Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, The Great Garloo, Big Loo The Big Wheel and Penny the Poodle, to name a few.
“I am proud to have been a part of the Marx Toy legacy for 40 years and look forward to Nacelle’s re-vamping and promoting the Marx Toy legend, known as the World’s Largest Toy Company during most of the 20th century, to the new generation.” Jay Horowitz.
“With this deal, we’re honoring the rich history of Marx Toys by reviving the iconic American toy brand and introducing their wonderful creations to a new audience,” said Brian Volk-Weiss, Founder and CEO of The Nacelle Company.
