The Rock and Roll Playhouse Announces Fall 2016 Season of "Rock & Roll For Kids" at Garcia's at The Capitol Theatre

New York, NY: Garcia's at The Capitol Theatre has announced their third season of "Rock & Roll For Kids," an interactive children's music-workshop which encourages kids to "move, play and sing while listening to works from the classic-rock canon" (NYT) One Saturday morning each month, Garcia's at The Capitol Theatre will host children's programming featuring music of The Grateful Dead, Fleetwood Mac, Phish, and more.

"Rock & Roll For Kids" is designed to emphasize movement and creative collaborations, while simultaneously listening to classic tunes and teaching developmental milestones. Each workshop is 60 minutes long and is specifically designed for children ten and younger, but all family members are welcome.

About Rock and Roll Playhouse: 

The Rock and Roll Playhouse, a weekly children's-music-workshop series hosted at Brooklyn Bowl and the Capitol Theatre, allows kids to "move, play and sing while listening to works from the classic-rock canon" (NY Times). Created by entrepreneur and owner of The Capitol Theatre and Brooklyn Bowl, Peter Shapiro, and Amy Striem, an Early Childhood and Elementary teacher, The Rock and Roll Playhouse uses music to educate children and explore their creativity. The idea for The Playhouse came to Shapiro, a parent of two young children, after he discovered first-hand a lack of regular programming in New York City that combined his passion for live music and his family. He collaborated with Striem, then an administrator at his daughter's nursery school, to help fill this void that they felt many other parents also shared. Using the songs created by the most iconic musicians in rock history, The Rock and Roll Playhouse offers its core audience of three to eight year-olds games, movement, and stories and an opportunity to rock out. The Rock and Roll Playhouse is an early and often first introduction to a child's lifelong journey with live music and rock and roll.

 

About The Capitol Theatre: 

Designed by celebrated architect Thomas Lamb in 1926 and listed in The National Register of Historic Places, the theatre is located approximately 30 miles from NYC, conveniently accessible by I-95 and only one block from the Port Chester Metro North train station. In its distinguished history, the 1,835-capacity theatre has hosted concerts by the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Derek and the Dominos, Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, David Bowie, Santana, Black Sabbath, Iggy Pop, and many more. Following a transformative renovation under the guidance of music entrepreneur Peter Shapiro (Brooklyn Bowl, Wetlands, Relix, U2 3D), the theatre reopened as a rock palace on Sep 4, 2012, with a performance by Bob Dylan and has since hosted everyone from Al Green and My Morning Jacket to Sleigh Bells and Morrissey.
