Special AmericanaFest Events This Weekend In Nashville
(New York, NY): The Time For Peace is Now explores the rich and often overlooked period of the early ‘70s when a funky, Southern strain of gospel – focusing less on Jesus and more on ourselves – found a new voice, and it’s out today via Luaka Bop. This is the second release in the label’s World Spirituality Classics series, following the acclaimed 2017 release The Ecstatic Music of Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda.

The Time For Peace is Now is comprised of unearthed and obscure 45s found in attics, sheds, and crates across the American South. It features an equally eclectic mix of contributors, including renowned soul DJ Greg Belson, who compiled the album, and NYT best-selling author Jonathan Lethem, Pastor Keith L. Whitney, and scholar Robert F. Darden, who all contribute liner notes.
