October 23, 2026: Today, indie rock duo Tommy Lefroy released their debut album, The Precariat, via Thirty Tigers. Taking its title from the economic term for a growing class of people living with increasing instability and uncertainty, The Precariat examines what it means to come of age in an unpredictable world, ultimately finding togetherness as an antidote to isolation. Co-produced by the band alongside Stephen Sesso, with executive production from Mike Crossey (The 1975, Arctic Monkeys, MUNA), the album offers an unflinching capture of the uncertainty and anxiety permeating our collective psyche, along with the universality of precarity, despite its tendency to isolate. Written over six years between Nashville, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Michigan and London, the album draws from literature, art and history to connect larger cultural forces with the anxieties and contradictions of life today. Previous singles include “Angel in the House,” inspired by Virginia Woolf’s landmark 1931 speech Professions for Women and the modern resurgence of trad-wife culture; the melancholic slow-burn “Thief”; the sharp-edged, satirical summer anthem “Slush Puppy”; and a meditation on the blind faith that started the band on “Vacuum.” |

The title track, out today, serves as an ironic ode to a crumbling empire and a thesis for the project as a whole. “The Precariat” reflects on coming of age in a rapidly changing world and on the inescapable American systems that perpetually fail us. The album’s closing song disintegrates into a quiet, haunting outro, inspired by the duo living in London and missing home while watching it morph from afar. “We can’t make it like we used to,” the pair chants.
Earlier this fall, the album’s literary underpinnings were explored in a SPIN feature, which dubbed Tommy Lefroy “music’s biggest book nerds” and highlighted the duo’s practice of hosting book swaps at their concerts. From Virginia Woolf and suffragette Mary Richardson to Guy Standing’s The Precariat: The New Dangerous Class, these influences become jumping-off points for songs connecting history with the instability of the present day. The band is even named after Thomas Langlois Lefroy, Jane Austen's alleged inspiration for Mr. Darcy. Read the SPIN Magazine feature HERE and more about the album on the band’s Substack HERE.
Since releasing their debut EP Flight Risk in 2021, Tommy Lefroy earned a JUNO Award nomination for Breakthrough Artist of the Year, opened for Sigrid at Wembley Arena less than a year after playing their first headline show in London, and toured internationally with Samia and Niall Horan, performing for audiences numbering in the tens of thousands.
Tonight, Tommy Lefroy will play a sold-out album release show at New York’s Stone Circle Theatre, followed by an in-store performance at Rough Trade NYC tomorrow, October 24th (final RSVPs available HERE). The band also announced a slate of 2027 US spring tour dates earlier this week, including shows in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, and more.
