Performs Original Song “This Town” With Shakey Graves - Watch HERE
Last night, Trixie Mattel took to the Jimmy Kimmel Live! stage to perform her “song you need to know” (Rolling Stone) and heartachingly nostalgic collab with Shakey Graves “This Town”. Watch the drag legend and music superstar’s touching late night TV debut HERE.
It’s a cut from Trixie Mattel’s forthcoming double LP ‘The Blonde & Pink Albums’ which will drop June 24th via PEG Records. The track is a haunting and powerful reflection on small town life and what we leave behind (both good and bad) when we depart.
You can also check out the equally effective music video, which was directed by Matt Amato (Bon Iver, Dido, Beach House) and filmed almost entirely in Trixie’s childhood hometown of Wausaukee, WI, and includes home movie footage of Trixie in her youth and current day footage shot around the quiet blue collar town.
‘The Blonde & Pink Albums’ also features sister tracks “Hello Hello” (that Esquire said “meets at the crossroads of surf and garage rock, echoing the addictive, shout-til-you-drop hooks of West Coast music titans the Go Gos”) and “C’mon Loretta” (which tells the story of Loretta Lynn and was called “the rock-countryish bop we didn't know we needed” by Teen Vogue). Elsewhere on the album finds Mattel stripping down the iconic The Go-Go’s’ classic “Vacation” to its haunting, melancholic center, while elsewhere collaborating with her longtime musical idol Michelle Branch, and overall on the double LP embracing the dynamic power of writing sugary rock tracks with unexpectedly dark origins. ‘The Blonde & Pink Albums’ will showcase the musical evolution of an artist who has not only broken down boundaries within the music world, but also the mainstream pop culture universe.
Last night's performance comes ahead of the June 3 premiere of Trixie’s reality renovation show Trixie Motel (via discovery+).
Trixie recently partnered with Fender, worked with Integrity Toys to release the “Trixie” doll, was nominated for a Critics Choice Award for her “One Night Only” comedy special, announced a second book with her comedic partner Katya, and appeared as one of the judges for the hit Paramount+ Queen of the Universe singing competition alongside Michelle Visage, Leona Lewis and Vanessa Williams. These accomplishments alone showcase an artist who has not only a near-limitless arsenal of talents, but an unshakeable ambition to take over the world.
The RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars-winner’s past musical releases have been praised by NPR, Rolling Stone, Billboard, Consequence, NME, Paper, Nylon and more. The drag legend has also blossomed within the worlds of cosmetics (her self-started Trixie Cosmetics company regularly releases quick-to-sell-out new items), blogging (the GOOPED newsletter with Katya via Substrack), writing (Trixie and Katya's Guide to Modern Womanhood was a NY Times Best-Seller), podcasting (The Bald and The Beautiful is a Queerty Award-winner), digital content creation (her multiple web endeavors recently won her an American Influencer Award), and live performance (she is currently on the road as part of the Trixie and Katya Live tour).
