United Palace Celebrates Uptown's Sacred Music and Cultural Traditions at Interfaith Music Festival (March 18)

United Palace Celebrates Uptowns Sacred Music and Cultural Traditions at Interfaith Music Festival (March 18)

On Sunday, March 18th, the United Palace House of Inspiration will host the Interfaith Music Festival, a celebration of the rich cultural and sacred music heritage of Washington Heights. The free event, organized in collaboration with the Upper Manhattan Interfaith Leaders Coalition, will feature performances from groups spanning diverse religious traditions and cultures. A live stream of the festival will also be available via the United Palace House of Inspiration website.

"We are honored and delighted to be hosting the Interfaith Music Festival," says Heather Shea, CEO of United Palace and Spiritual Director of United Palace House of Inspiration. "As an inclusive spiritual community, the United Palace celebrates spiritual practices born of the great wisdom traditions, by the joyous connection to spirit through music, dance, and the spoken word."

"Art and music offer us rich and evocative alternatives to history," adds Ph.D. scholar and friend of the Palace Jean Houston. "This festival will bring about a greater understanding of the community and the universe at large, for all in attendance."

As Manhattan's 4th largest theater, the United Palace is a hub of creative expression and personal growth fusing culture, spirituality, and entertainment. Formerly the Loew's 175th Street Theatre and designed by acclaimed architect Thomas W. Lamb, the United Palace has been a spiritual center since 1969. The nonprofit United Palace of Cultural Arts (UPCA) was established in 2012 to serve as an arts and cultural center within the United Palace. The theater is located at 4140 Broadway in Washington Heights.

The Upper Manhattan Interfaith Leaders Coalition convenes to foster communal involvement across faiths, discuss community issues, share about how different faith traditions view these issues, improve the lives of individuals in the community, find areas of consensus to share resources and opportunities and to be a prophetic voice that reclaims moral (spiritual) language for justice and the common good.
