"Vivid, Witty Storyteller" Brandy Clark Earns CMA Nod In Song Of The Year Category

Brandy Clark's unfiltered take on the human experience, its joys and especially its frailties, has earned the power-writer a CMA Song of the Year nomination for her contribution to Miranda Lambert's No. 1 radio hit, "Mama's Broken Heart." Written with Shane McAnally and Kacey Musgraves, this is Clark's first CMA nomination.

Having recently announced the Oct. 22 release of her full-length debut, 12 Stories, Brandy is already receiving critical acclaim; not just for her writing but for her vocals.

"Musically speaking, Clark is a classicist: Her songs are models of fine Music Row handicraft, built from time-tested materials," notes Jody Rosen, NY Magazine. "Clark is an excellent singer, with a voice that slides easily between songbird prettinesss and hard-drawlin' twang."

Ann Powers of NPR says, "Oh, and did I mention that the young singer-songwriter who might be the best of them all -- Brandy Clark, who co-wrote Musgraves' 'Follow Your Arrow,' hasn't even released her debut album yet?"

Through it all, Brandy's focus remains on the music. "I get my inspiration from real people who are just surviving their lives and getting through their days. That's who I write songs for," explains Brandy. "I want to write songs for somebody who is working at a bank--if that person could write a song, what they would write. That's my goal."
