WhyHunger Celebrates Yoko Ono Lennon, Patrick Sullivan & RightsFlow By Google, & Community-Based Food Justice Groups At 2013 Chapin Awards

 
On Monday, June 3, 2013 at Chelsea Piers, WhyHunger will honor activists championing the fight against hunger and poverty at the annual WhyHunger Chapin Awards Dinner, including Yoko Ono Lennon, who receives the ASCAP Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award, Patrick Sullivan and his RightsFlow colleagues, and the 2013 winners of the Harry Chapin Self-Reliance Award.

Yoko Ono Lennon, a longtime partner of WhyHunger through the Imagine There's No Hunger campaign, will be honored for her impressive achievements in the fight to end hunger and poverty, which include providing 6.8 million nutritious meals, as well as vital agricultural training for impoverished children in 19 countries around the world. 

"It's an honor to be recognized for my work with the Imagine There's No Hunger campaign," said Ms. Lennon. "The campaign does more than just imagine a world without hunger; it works every day to end a problem that affects millions of children and families around the globe."

Sullivan and the team at RightsFlow by Google, recognized as industry leaders in helping music creators receive compensation for their work, will be honored for their efforts as long-time supporters of WhyHunger’s Artists Against Hunger & Poverty program.

“We’re humbled by this honor and are committed to our support of WhyHunger in its efforts to end hunger and poverty around the world,” added Sullivan. “We believe in the importance of serving our community, and in the power we have to enact positive change, awareness and inspiration for those around us in need.”

Additionally, the evening will recognize the 2013 Harry Chapin Self-Reliance Award Winners: Adelante Mujeres, Forest Grove, OR; La Mujer Obrera, El Paso, TX; Little Village Environmental Justice Organization, Chicago, IL; Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard, Bloomington, IN; and SEEDS, Durham, NC.

The Harry Chapin Self-Reliance Awards pay tribute to grassroots, community-based organizations around the country working to end hunger and poverty and finding new ways to improve their community.
