April 10, 2024 — Today, world-renowned classical pianist Lang Lang was honored with the 2,778th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, making him the first Asian pianist to receive a star on the iconic sidewalk. Located at 7044 Hollywood Boulevard, the star was presented by the City of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in recognition of Lang Lang’s contributions to the world of classical music in the category of Live Performance.
Steve Nissen, President & CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, served as the ceremony’s emcee while Dickon Stainer, President & CEO of Global Classics & Jazz, and UMG Executive Vice President Michele Anthony spoke at the event.
Before treating family, friends, fans, and guests to a live performance of “Jasmine Flower” and “Ritual Fire Dance” (Manuel de Falla) played on a baby grand piano on loan courtesy of Steinway & Sons, Lang Lang expressed his gratitude for his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, recounting: “When I was a little boy, I learned music brings us together. No matter how different we seem on the surface, we are inspired and healed by music. It doesn’t matter if you grew up in Beijing or Boston; the common ground is music. It reminds us that we aren’t that different after all.”
