Today, world-renowned jazz vocalist Patricia Barber releases Clique, a brand new album of standards captured in breathtaking hi-fi. As the “highly anticipated” (Jazz.fm) successor to Nightclub, her critically-acclaimed and fan-favorite first album of standards, Clique features a tracklist of tunes that Barber has frequently performed as encores throughout her illustrious career. From classics by Rodgers & Hammerstein and Lerner & Loewe to beloved songs from Stevie Wonder, Lee Hazlewood, Thelonious Monk and more, the inspired anthology invites listeners to kick off their “hot jazz summer” (Salon) in “signature Barber fashion” (WBGO).

Over the past four decades, Patricia Barber has become known for her “tightly compressed lyrics, transparent musical textures, and infinitesimally subtle vocal shadings” (Chicago Tribune) while growing an international cult following, earning the first-ever Guggenheim Fellowship for a non-classical songwriter and more. On Clique, Barber once again teams with GRAMMY-winning engineer Jim Anderson to write the next chapter in a 26-year working relationship that has very few precedents.

Recorded, mixed and mastered in Digital eXtreme Definition (352.8kHz/32bit) at Chicago Recording Company’s Studio 5, the sessions for Clique are among Anderson’s finest engineering achievements. Each recording renders every inflection of Barber’s voice with astounding presence and clarity, perfectly complementing her nuance in ways that continue to redefine the standards of sound.

As observed by NPR’s Susan Stamberg, in her liner notes for Clique, Patricia Barber “respects traditions, bends them to make her own points, and freshens them into something new.” Check out more early praise for the album below:
