March 3, 2026 -- Rhiannon Giddens has announced American Tunes: Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing, a special five-night presentation of concerts in which the Pulitzer and Grammy-winning artist will be joined by Mavis Staples, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Hurray for the Riff Raff under open skies for a joyful celebration of American songs that connect generations. The concerts will take place between June 26 and August 2, visiting outdoor performing arts centers and amphitheatres. Artist presale begins March 4 at 10AM local time, and general on sale this Friday at 10AM local time. https://events.seated.com/american-tunes
Giddens imagined this tour as an extension of her 2025 Juneteenth Hollywood Bowl concert in Los Angeles, a gathering of banjo players entitled “American Tunes,” featuring Steve Martin, Ed Helms and Our Native Daughters (Giddens’ supergroup with Amythyst Kiah, Allison Russell and Leyla McCalla). Variety deemed it “the roots music event of the year.” The upcoming summer tour will explore and celebrate female and black perspectives on folk music as well as create an opportunity to reflect on America turning 250 years old. Giddens, Staples, Chapin Carpenter and Hurray for the Riff Raff will each perform their own sets, with one-time-only collaborations in store. Staples will not be performing on the June 26 date.

Giddens will be performing throughout 2026, including a headlining run with her band that visits Carnegie Hall on May 8, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and an evening of music in her hometown of Durham, NC, at DPAC on April 27. Biscuits & Banjos Presents: Rhiannon Giddens’ Beloved Community will feature Giddens and her band, with Mavis Staples, Blind Boys of Alabama, Rissi Palmer and Toshi Reagon and mark the one-year anniversary of the Biscuits & Banjos festival, which took place across multiple venues in Durham. From March 10-28, Giddens will perform with the Silkroad Ensemble, where she is the Artistic Director, presenting a program entitled Sanctuary: The Power of Resonance and Ritual.
In perpetual creative motion, Giddens has been busy on several fronts. It was recently announced that she is the lead in a forthcoming feature film - An Ode To Mary Joe - starring alongside Ed Helms with a cast including Jason Isbell, Steve Earle, Regina Taylor and John Sayles. The film is directed by Justin Liberman. She also attended the GRAMMY Awards last month, as a Best Folk Album nominee for 2025’s What Did The Blackbird Say to the Crow made with longtime collaborator Justin Robinson. Giddens and Robinson took the opportunity to share the spirit of the album - music for the community - and performed on the street outside of the GRAMMY ceremony.
