X5 Curates New App ''Jukebox'' As Streaming Revenue Grows

X5 Music Group has launched a new Spotify app called "Jukebox" that takes advantage of their skill in curation and employs a number of experts in the industry to help users browse and discover music. Jukebox does for Oldies music what X5's popular "Classify," "Bluesify" and "Jazzify" have done for their respective genres -- help Spotify users browse an expansive and often overwhelming set of music, making the discovery of new music easy.

X5's "Jukebox" curators are a team of 30 experts enlisted from the music industry, including top publications and music labels. The accomplished team includes: Grammy-nominated producer of over 100 compilation albums Tom Vickers; former Rock and Roll Hall of Fame archivist and former Sony Music executive Andy Schwartz; Stevie Wonder and Bill Haley biographer John Swenson; New Yorker contributor Steve Futterman; Rolling Stone and Texas Monthly contributor John Morthland; and Wall Street Journal, Downbeat, Village Voice contributor Tad Hendrickson.

"Jukebox" is X5's fourth app, set to follow the original "Classify," which launched in 2011 and now boasts 83,000+ monthly users and 375,000+ app installs. Similarly, "Bluesify" and "Jazzify," which launched last fall, have helped completely new audiences discover blues and jazz, increasing overall streams and therefore revenue for this content across the board. Over 7,000 expert-curated blues and jazz playlists span every form and era of these genres. According to Billboard, the "blues browser is so helpful, Spotify should come bundled with tuition at music academies."

The app allows users to browse through the greatest Oldies artists, with content sourced from the back-catalogs of iconic American labels. It offers biographical notes on each artist, as well as suggestions for related artists, which include the likes of Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Frank Sinatra, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Ike & Tina Turner, and Otis Redding.
