Alternative R&B artist Yuna, who surprised Coachella audiences last week with a performance with Tokimonsta, shares Y2, the latest installment of her new project series Y5, leading up to a full-length album release this fall. Y2 features three brand new songs - “Girl U Used to Know,” “24 Hours” and “Make A Move” - that paint an intimate portrait of healing through heartbreak.

The lead single “Make A Move,” Yuna says, “is about meeting someone for the first time and you find yourself constantly thinking about them. You know that even if this person knows your name, it’s not enough to spark something real, you have to make the first move to talk to him/him or do something before it’s too late or before the situation becomes a ‘could-have-been’.”

Y2 finds Yuna celebrating ten years in the music industry, with three critically-acclaimed solo albums and an array of collaborations with everyone from Zedd to Usher and Pharrell Williams, who produced her breakout hit “Live Your Life” in 2012. Now Yuna is releasing her new music independently, taking the reins of her immaculate production and operating on a release schedule that gives fans time to fully digest the lavish soundscape she's cultivated.

Inspired by time spent during the pandemic in her home town of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where she transformed her father’s office into a studio, Yuna taught herself to produce and found the power of going independent.

“I discovered something new about myself… that I can produce. Now I don't have to depend on anyone else for music—I can do things myself. I got really inspired by that. There’s something very powerful about being an independent artist.”

In addition to Yuna’s innovative new release strategy, she has long been a trendsetter on the global fashion scene, using her platform to talk about biased beauty standards in Asia and making modest clothes more fashionable.

Known for music that speaks to the soul, with a breezy and effervescent tone that organically blends pop, folk, and R&B Yuna’s sound is entirely her own. Her personally charged songs are deeply felt and melodically irresistible, combining her engaging voice and expressive songcraft with imaginative production to create wholly distinctive music that's won her accolades around the globe.
