Biography View

Clemency Burton-Hill is Creative Director, Music & Arts at WQXR, where she oversees the station’s creative and audience development plan and works to redefine the role classical music can play in contemporary culture.

In her native UK, she has been a prominent host on BBC radio and television arts programs for over a decade. She contributes on a range of subjects to the Economist, 1843 Magazine, FT Weekend, The Guardian and The Telegraph.

On television, radio and in print, Clemency has interviewed many leading figures from the worlds of the arts, entertainment and technology, including Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne, Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes, late novelist Chinua Achebe, choreographer Wayne McGregor, artificial intelligence pioneer Demis Hassabis, and the world’s top classical artists, conductors and composers including John Williams, Philip Glass, Nico Muhly, Hilary Hahn, Joshua Bell, and Jeremy Denk.

As an award-winning violinist, Clemency has performed all over the world under leading conductors, including Daniel Barenboim. Born in London, she lives in New York with her husband and two young sons.
