Biography View

Downwrite is the premiere platform for the co-creation of music between fans and artists. It allows fans to bring a personal experience, idea, or occasion into the creative realm of an artist, who through their unique talent, transforms the shared experience into music. Finished songs are of the highest quality, written and produced to the level of a professional record. The artist and fan share future royalties earned from the finished song, with Downwrite providing distribution to streaming platforms and potentially finding a home for the song in TV or Film in the form of a sync.

Downwrite has developed a unique framework within the creator economy that allows artists to maintain co-ownership of songs that have been commissioned, while earning real revenue under industry leading splits. Downwrite’s terms are non-exclusive, meaning an artist’s work can live alongside whatever music apps they work with. Downwrite aims to build a catalog of all-original music that taps into a new realm of creativity uniquely afforded by the process of co-creation.

Jake Morris Bio:

By his 32nd birthday, Jake Morris had started a company, bought a company, and sold a company. And it’s this passion for creation, participation, and disruption that connects Jake to the artists, commissioners, and team at Downwrite—the music commissioning platform where he is currently chief executive officer. With a track record of bypassing outdated practices and structures, Downwrite is Jake’s perfect gig as it challenges the existing music industry model by paying artists fairly. Only a year after he came on board, Downwrite had a new corporate infrastructure, diverse leadership team, seed funding, and raised $2 million in bridge funding. A natural innovator and entrepreneur, Jake began his career with a major healthcare consulting firm, using what he learned there to build his own successful enterprises. His firm, McKinnis Consulting, thrived for six years until it was bought by Navigant in 2015.

Randy Sabiston Bio:

Some of music’s best-known names owe their start—and their success—to Randy Sabiston, an experienced executive with exceptional understanding of the record industry. In a storied career spanning 25 years, Randy has discovered, acquired, and developed an array of multi-platinum artists, musicians, and songwriters, including Gavin DeGraw, Lifehouse, The Lumineers, Quicksand, Shaggy, Chevelle, Sevendust and Will Hoge.
