Bio : Kerry Docherty
Kerry Docherty is the author of the memoir Selfish: Unlearning, Reclaiming, and Telling the Truth and her children's book Somewhere, Right Now, featuring art by New York Times bestselling illustrator Suzie Mason and selected for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
As co-founder of Faherty, Docherty built the brand’s impact strategy around community building, sustainability, and creativity - she launched Second Wave, the brand’s resale site designed to keep pre-loved products out of landfills, and founded the Native Initiatives strategy to work with Native artists to end appropriation in fashion. She also leads yearly impact retreats with artists, activists, and thought leaders, helping guide Faherty’s evolution into a certified B Corp that has partnered in donating over a million dollars to Native artists and communities.
Prior to co-founding Faherty Brand, Kerry received her BA from Yale University and her law degree from Pepperdine School of Law, where she focused on human rights and social justice. She clerked for the American Civil Liberties Union and for a federal judge in Brooklyn. She later started her own mindfulness coaching business, where she led workshops and built curricula around using meditation as a tool for healing.
She lives with her husband and two children on the New Jersey shore. She and her family also own Sun & Waves cafe, which serves as a community hub and offers fresh and healthy food options. In her downtime, she is constantly looking for sea glass on any beach she can find.
