Matt Holubowski’s unmistakable voice and steadfast personality were revealed with Solitudes, his second album that in many ways evokes isolation, estrangement, and exile, delving into the forms of solitudes we seek and at times need. Matt wrote all the songs and worked tirelessly, surrounding himself with invaluable musical collaborators: Stéphane Bergeron (Karkwa) on drums, Marc-André Landry (Chloé Lacasse) on bass, Simon Angell (Patrick Watson) on guitar and Marianne Houle (Klô Pelgag) on cello. Connor Seidel produced the record and co-mixed it with Warren Spicer (Plants and Animals). This remarkable collection of eleven songs garnered quick praise and sold over thirty-five thousand units in Canada since its 2016 release.
The Solitudes tours takes the province by surprise with more than 130 performances in less than two years, including several additional performances throughout Quebec and notable stops in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, New York, LA, Paris, Hamburg and many others. His hard work is rewarded: Matt Holubowski wins the Prix Espoir FEQ in the summer of 2017, and Solitudes is nominated at the ADISQ Gala in the prestigious ‘English-language Album of the Year’ and ‘English-language Show of The Year’ categories.
