Animal Collective DJ Set, Big & Rich, Nicki Bluhm & the Gramblers + The Mother Hips, Hit Brooklyn Bowl In September

Brooklyn Bowl -- "one of the most incredible places on Earth" according to Rolling Stone -- will welcome a DJ set from Animal Collective’s Geologist and Deakin, a special album release party from country superstars Big & Rich, and Bay-area rockers Nicki Bluhm & the Gramblers and The Mother Hips as part of their September lineup.

Bombino - Sun, September 7 NPR Music says Bombino's first album had "some of the most sublime guitar licks you'll hear in 2011. The songs ... combine the best traits of Saturday nights and Sunday mornings, mixing killer solos with delicate repetition. The most magical moments come when Bombino finishes a verse—all sung in the Tuareg language of Tamasheq—and begins to lose himself in his guitar. You can't help but follow him down." (show: 8:00 pm, admission: $12)

Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers / The Mother Hips – Fri and Sat, Sept 19-20 San Francisco-based Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers combines folk-rock, brisk Americana and show-stopping soul, crisp rock guitar and Nicki’s soaring, nuanced vocals that some critics say remind them of Linda Ronstadt. Formed in 1991 at Chico State in Northern California, The Mother Hips have run the gamut of experiences as a band - from dorm band to buzz band to cult favorite. The New Yorker described them "a romping strain of countrified psychedelic power pop laced with traces of Merle Haggard, Barry Gibb, and the Eagles." (shows: 8:30pm, admission: $15-18)
