Canada’s Music Industry to Reunite In-Person at the 2022 JUNO Opening Night Awards Presented by Ontario Creates, Celebrating the Best in Canadian Music

Featuring live performances by nominees Roxane Bruneau, Ruby Waters, Valley, Allison Russell and 2021/2022 Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class artist, Jesse Gold

TORONTO – The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) announced today The 51st Annual JUNO Opening Night Awards Presented by Ontario Creates will be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on May 14, 2022. The celebration will bring Canada’s professional music community together for one of the first live industry events since the pandemic began. Co-hosted by Angeline Tetteh-Wayoe (CBC Music’s The Block ) and Ann Pornel (The Great Canadian Baking Show), the highly-anticipated exclusive industry event will feature the presentation of more than 40 JUNO Awards, celebrating Canada’s rich and varied music landscape. The ceremony will also recognize this year’s special achievement award recipients including the Humanitarian Award Presented by Music Canada (Susan Aglukark), the Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award (Denise Jones) and The MusiCounts Inspired Minds Ambassador Award (MIMAA), presented by the Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation  

The evening will showcase five electrifying performances from 2022 JUNO Award nominees including Quebec’s own Roxane Bruneau (Francophone Album of the Year), eclectic alt-rocker Ruby Waters (Alternative Album Of The Year Presented by CBC Music) plus two-time JUNO Award nominees Valley (Group Of The Year Presented by SiriusXM Canada).  two-time JUNO Award nominee Allison Russell (Contemporary Roots Album Of The Year, Songwriter of the Year Presented by SOCAN), will perform this year's In Memoriam tribute to those no longer with us.  Jesse Gold, a 2021/2022 Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class short list artist, will also grace the stage with a soulful performance.

The 51st annual JUNO Awards and JUNO Week 2022 will take place in Toronto, ON from May 9 through May 15, 2022, culminating in The JUNO Awards. The 2022 JUNO Awards, produced by Insight Productions (a Boat Rocker company), will make history on Sunday, May 15 as it broadcasts and streams for the first time from an outdoor venue at Budweiser Stage in Toronto, live across Canada at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBC TV, CBC Gem, CBC Radio One, CBC Music, CBC Listen, and globally at CBCMusic.ca/junos. Hosted by Simu Liu, performers include Arcade Fire, Arkells, Avril Lavigne, Charlotte Cardin, Deborah Cox, and Mustafa.
