High-Five Jerry Garcia At The Cap's New Bar

The Capitol Theatre celebrated the opening of Garcia's, their new bar named in honor of Jerry Garcia, last night with the first of three nights of performances by Reid Genauer (Strangefolk, Assembly of Dust) and Friends. Newsday and the Journal News profiled the new Port Chester, NY, watering hole this week, which is the first to be officially associated with the Garcia family.

"The bar is decked out with impressively cool pieces of Grateful Dead history," writes the Journal News, "like Garcia’s banjo, some of his original watercolor paintings and the famous bronze sculpture of the icon’s guitar playing hand, which is mounted on the bar so patrons can high-five history": http://shorefi.re/107FUlg

The bar will be open 7 days a week and feature live music some nights when the rock palace, which was one of the Grateful Dead's favorite venues in the country, isn't hosting bands. Genauer and Friends' Garcia's run continues tonight and tomorrow, and you can check out the Cap's full schedule here: http://shorefi.re/12AS2hP
