New York artist Knox Martin currently has a solo exhibition at the Arlington Museum of Art (AMA), titled Knox Martin: Living Legend. The AMA had the distinct honor of working collaboratively with Martin, his studio, Hollis Taggart, and other prestigious entities to curate an exhibit to showcase and honor his work.

The exhibit features 65 artworks with dates spanning from 1952 to 2020, including pieces from Martin’s WOMAN series and the complete SHE series. This exhibition also unveils a never before seen series: The Tomato Watercolors on the AMA’s rooftop gallery.

Knox Martin’s impressive career spans nearly seven decades and has borne witness to several of the largest artistic movements in American history. Martin’s work has engaged with a wide range of aesthetic influences and has been defined by his use of bright colors, bold architectural lines and artistic references to the female form, which often serves as a source of artistic inspiration for the artist. Martin’s two best-known murals in New York City are Venus and Woman with Bicycle. Knox Martin has been the recipient of many grants and awards.

Board President of the AMA, Chris Hightower said, “We are so thrilled to be working closely with Martin on this exhibit. It’s a rare opportunity to work directly with a living artist of this caliber during his lifetime. Curating this exhibit is an honor for our museum and hosting it in Arlington is a coup for the entire North Texas region.”

Board President of The Art Students League of New York, Robin Lechter Frank said, “Knox Martin is not only a living legend in the art world but also within the halls of The League. His passion for art, his legendary talks and his love of mentoring will forever be woven into our legacy.”
