Nitro Circus Kicks Off 20th Anniversary Tour with Explosive Opening Night

New York, NY – Friday, October 13, 2023 – The thrill-loving action sports stars of Nitro Circus celebrated two decades of pushing the limits Tuesday during opening night of their 20th Anniversary Tour presented by PublicSq. Iconic ringleader Travis Pastranaled a stacked athlete roster of freestyle motocross (FMX), BMX, skate, and scooter pros with more than 50 X Games medals to their names at Bloomington, IL’s Grossinger Motors Arena, alongside bold daredevils who braved Nitro’s sketchy contraptions. 

Dominant FMX rider Jackson “Jacko” Strong, a 15-time X Games medalist in his own right, landed his signature front flip over a jaw-dropping 45-foot gap, while another FMX force, Josh Sheehan, launched his electric dirt bike over 50 feet into the air to stomp a massive double backflip. Ryan “R-Willy” Williams, who Pastrana deems, “The best athlete in actions sports today,” threw down on both BMX and scooter, while decorated BMX athlete Jaie Toohey stuck a triple backflip. 

The biggest cheers of the night, however, belonged to Aaron “Wheelz” Fotheringham, an inspirational figure in action sports who has redefined his wheelchair from a restriction to a tool. Wheelz brought the house down front flipping off Nitro’s legendary 50-foot Giganta ramp.

Aspiring BMX athlete Casey Jordan from Racine, WI, winner of Nitro Circus’ “Show Us Ur Tricks” competition, had the opportunity to ride with his heroes in front of the crowd as well.

In addition to the huge flips and visceral jumps, Nitro Circus alumni – going back to the brand’s beginnings from best-selling DVD’s and the hit MTV series – including Jolene VanVugt, Jim De Champ, Hubert Rowland, and more - made surprise guest appearances.

In all, over 20 elite athletes are embarking on what is not only the biggest action sports tour of the year, but the craziest show in live entertainment. Nitro Circus is running it back, celebrating two decades of record-breaking thrills, death-defying spills, and side-splitting mischief, while returning to indoor arenas for the first time in five years. 

Following Tuesday’s Heartland USA kickoff, the tour rolls on, with shows in Anaheim, Oklahoma City, Tulsa and more coming up. A full tour itinerary is listed below.
