OneRepublic, Mayer Hawthorne And American Authors To Headline Summerfest 2014

MILWAUKEE (May 14, 2014) – Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. officials are excited to announce the eleventh and final major show slated for Summerfest 2014. OneRepublic with special guests Mayer Hawthorne and American Authors will headline the Marcus Amphitheater on Tuesday, July 1.

In creating their third full-length album, OneRepublic traveled to Paris, Greece, London, New York, Seattle and Vancouver to write, record and immerse themselves in elevating and expanding their already-sweeping sound. Also working at lead singer/songwriter/ keyboardist and GRAMMY® winner Ryan Tedder’s own Patriot Studios in Denver, OneRepublic (whose 2007 smash “Apologize” ranks in the top 50 on the Billboard Hot 100’s All-Time Top Songs list) redefined their approach to rhythm and infused their high-powered rock-pop hybrid with elements of electronic music, gospel, blues and folk. A bold and boundary-pushing follow-up to 2009’s Waking Up, the resulting Native offers up a surge of stadium-sized rock that’s fiercely beat-driven yet ethereal and intimate.

“There’s this crazy juxtaposition happening on the album,” says Tedder, whose bandmates include Zach Filkins (guitar), Drew Brown (guitar), Brent Kutzle (bass, cello), and Eddie Fisher (drums). “On one hand we tiptoed into the EDM world and brought in that energy, drive, and tempo, but on the other it’s got a lot of acoustic guitar and a much more organic feel than what we’ve done before.”

Though the album’s built on deftly crafted beats and intricately textured arrangements, a spirit of simplicity stands at the heart of Native. Still, there’s no shortage of uplift on Native which includes hits “Feel Again” and
“Counting Stars.”

Special guest, Mayer Hawthorne has come a long way since his 2008 debut, and right now, he says, “Life is great.” He’s released three well-received full-length albums, had songs licensed for film, television and toured the world as a headlining act, with Bruno Mars, Foster The People, Erykah Badu, Janelle Monae and the late Amy Winehouse. His latest album, Where Does This Door Go, features a host of top-flight production work from Pharrell Williams, Greg Wells, Jack Splash, John Hill and Oak (of Oak & Pop), who contributed both the album’s first single, “Her Favorite Song,” and the Kendrick Lamar-assisted “Crime.”

Self-described "laid-back dudes," Brooklyn-based alt rock band American Authors is comprised of Zac Barnett (vocals), James Adam Shelley (guitar/banjo), Dave Rublin (bass), and Matt Sanchez (drums). Together they hail from the four corners of the country, each bringing their own influences and experiences to the writing table to create pop-flavored alt rock sprinkled with four-part harmonies, spirited lyrics, and contagious optimism. To hear their music and to watch them perform, it can be said that American Authors has the natural 'it' factor that leads to music's most successful artists. They wrote “Believer,” the first song to develop their signature sound which landed at Sirius XM's Alt Nation radio, whose tastemaker DJ's and diehard listeners alike wholeheartedly embraced the song and its human counterparts leading to a huge spike in social media and music sales along with a mini-tour.
