Recap: Day 2 of Relix Music Conference at Brooklyn Bowl Nashville

Yesterday (4.18), Relix Music Conference wrapped up its two-day event at Brooklyn Bowl Nashville with more panels from top industry professionals, musicians and others. The second day featured discussions about children’s entertainment and Web3’s new role in the industry, a case study on Wasserman Music and a conversation with iconic musician John Oates. Below are some highlights from the event.

Relix Magazine’s Dean Budnick moderated the second part of this industry-encompassing panel, covering topics including what music impacted the panelists’ careers, how the amount of information on artists has grown and how to break through the noise, the musical mythos of Nashville and more. Panelists included Ben Blackwell of Third Man Records, rock/soul singer Maggie Rose, JC Curleigh of Gibson Brands and WME’s Braeden Rountree

Mike Greenhaus, Editor-in-Chief of Relix Magazine, led a discussion on how to create and maintain great live children’s entertainment in the modern world. Speakers included Terrapin Station Entertainment’s Jonathan Shank, Stacey Ryan of School Of Rock, Rock and Roll Playhouse’s Stephen Grybowski and Stephen Shaw of Round Room Live, who discussed the resurgence of live children’s events, how children’s entertainment is adapting to the digital age and more.

Case Study: Wasserman Music

Wasserman Music’s Chappel McCollister, Jonathan Levine and Lee Anderson and Wasserman's Molly Bailin discussed the emergence and success of the company in a conversation moderated by Project Admission’s Josh Baron. The group discussed strategically making decisions about opportunities for clients, Wasserman’s focus on artist and genre representation, the intersection of music with sports and branding, and much more.

Deana Burke of Boys Club, The Chernin Group’s Jarrod Dicker and Blockparty’s Vladislav Ginzburg sat down with moderator Patrick Workman of Unlock to discuss blockchain and Web3’s impact on the music industry. Topics included how Web3 allows for a unique connection for creators and fans, the importance of ownership of digital goods, predictions for the future of the space and more.

Americana Music Association Showcase

Nashville-based Americana duo Goldpine and Oklahoma-born singer-songwriter Wyatt Flores performed showcase concerts presented by the Americana Music Association on the Brooklyn Bowl patio.

In Conversation: John Oates

In a conversation with music journalist Jewly Hight, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer John Oates discussed his historic career including the impact of the folk revival in the ‘60s had on his life, how he combined all of his influences in his music, how the art of sampling is keeping classic music alive for a new generation, how “Maneater” evolved from a reggae tune and much more. He also performed a cover of Mississippi John Hurt’s “Spike Driver Blues” and an acoustic version of his song “Pushin’ A Rock.”
