If pop music demands perfection and following a regiment of rules, ‘Hope’ runs screaming away from all of that, perhaps freeing Shamir to travel uncharted waters.- Pitchfork

Shamir's art is a synthesis of the full spectrum of human emotion; sensual, furious, yearning, joyful. The freedom in his self-produced and released Hope, although tethered through style to greats (like Miss Nina Simone, Prince, and Taylor Swift) is based almost entirely in a hyper-specific, fully autonomous, embodied expression of personhood. Originally––and somewhat begrudgingly––released via SoundCloud in 2017, Hope was received with the sort of enthusiasm that marks this work as a truly iconic, world building project that only Shamir could have constructed.

The original vinyl pressing was quick to sell out and in April 2022, venerated label Kill Rock Stars released Hope across all digital platforms - its first appearance beyond the exclusivity of SoundCloud since 2017. Now, after its five year anniversary, Kill Rock Stars has released Hope (Deluxe Reissue) today along with two never-before-released bonus tracks on color vinyl, in a gatefold jacket - marking a maturation all the way from Shamir's bedroom 4-track to platforms available worldwide.

Following the video for bonus track Breathe,” a live one-take video for Camouflage” is out today, as well. This follows the news of Shamir’s upcoming shows with Le Tigre at Union Transfer in Philadelphia, PA on May 27 and Brooklyn Steel in Brooklyn, NY on July 28.

Shamir explains: "Hope came at a time in my life when I was desperately searching for it. I found myself not wanting to do music anymore after a rough introduction into the music industry. I didn't feel seen or heard as the artist I was, or at least wanted to be, and I was afraid that if I revealed that part of myself no one would embrace it. At the time I recorded Hope I fully believed it would be the last thing anyone would hear from me. Somehow, though, this record just cleared a new chapter for me. The love and fall out from this record completely changed the course of my life in ways I'm not sure anyone other than my close ones could fully understand. There were hard times. There were even harder times. Then there was rock bottom, but the solace this record provided me created a world of strength I wasn't able to tap into until I made it. Hope is a reminder that our paths are completely malleable, even if we get injured carving it out.”
