Slick Rick, RJD2, Wooden Wisdom, and Rubblebucket Hit Brooklyn Bowl In January

Brooklyn Bowl — "one of the most incredible places on Earth" according to Rolling Stone — has no plans of slowing down after the holiday season. The venue will kick start 2015 with a special all vinyl DJ set from Elijah Wood and Zach Cowie's duo Wooden Wisdom, as well as a set from hip-hop icon Slick Rick, as part of their January line up.

Rubblebucket - Sat, Jan 3
Brooklyn based dance rock crew Rubblebucket will take the stage at Brooklyn Bowl to perform tracks off of their most recent full-length album, 'Survival Sounds.' The band's unique sound, which "seamlessly incorporates funky horns, catchy synth loops, and tUnE-yArDs-esque percussion to craft their own brand of forward-thinking pop" (SPIN), makes for a "revved-up" (Rolling Stone) live performance (show: 9:00 pm, admission: $15).

Slick Rick - Fri, Jan 9
Known as one of the architects of hip-hop, Slick Rick: The Ruler will bring his dead on pop-culture references and hilarious one-liners to the stage at Brooklyn Bowl for a night of brilliant word play.  Known for his British accent and signature eye patch, Slick Rick began his career in the late 80s, when he released a series of acclaimed recordings such as, "Children's Story", "La Di Da Di" and "Hey Young World” - and has since been sampled and interpolated by artists such as TLC, Talib Kweli, Eminem, Mos Def, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Snoop Dogg, and Alicia Keys (show: 9pm, admission: $15).

RJD2 - Tue-Wed, Jan 13-14
Underground hip-hop super-producer to some, virtuoso sample-based instrumental wizard to others, Philadelphia based DJ and multi-instrumentalist RJD2 was catapulted to notoriety, fame, and serious hip-hop credibility with 2002's 'Dead Ringer' LP, and has since enjoyed a thoroughly prolific career.  With the help of his trusty MPC 2000XL, guitars, analog synths, and voice, RJD2 records, performs, arranges, and produces entirely by himself in his basement studio - resulting in a cohesive sound with rich songwriting and complex arrangements that transcend genre (shows: 8:30pm, admission: $20).

Bruce in the USA - Fri-Sat, Jan 16-17
Bruce in the USA will bring their high-energy musical experience to Brooklyn Bowl to share their recreation of a Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band show with the audience. Matt Ryan, from the World Famous “Legends In Concert” cast, has played the Springsteen character for eight years in their full scale Las Vegas show. Backed by a strong, powerful Clarence “The Big Man” Clemons…and a smokin’ handed “Little Stevie," Bruce In The USA takes this genre of performance art to a whole new level (shows: 8pm, admission: $15).

Wooden Wisdom - Mon, Jan 19
Wooden Wisdom is a DJ supergroup made up of Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit) and Zach Cowie (a music business jack-of-all-trades who has managed tours for Joanna Newsom and Devendra Banhart and supervised film soundtracks). The duo formed after discovering a mutual love for spinning, and will hit the stage at Brooklyn Bowl as part of their five city DJ tour for a special all vinyl set (show: 8pm, admission: $12).

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead - Fri-Sat, Jan 23-24
Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, made up of Scott Metzger, Tommy Hamilton, Dave Dreiwitz, Marco Benevento, and Joe Russo, will bring their “wild” and "incredibly adventurous” Grateful Dead tribute performance to Brooklyn Bowl for a night of Dead Head revival.  "Not only does this quintet play tight and vicious versions of some of the most complex songs in the Grateful Dead's repertoire, but they play them with a rawness & energy absent from the stage since the ‘Live' Dead era” (JamBase) (shows: 9pm, admission: $25-30).

Greensky Bluegrass - Wed-Thu, Jan 28-29
The days of traditional Bluegrass music have given way to a new generation of performers with a more open-ended idea of where the genre could go. Call it newgrass, progressive bluegrass, jamgrass or whatever else you’d like, but Greensky Bluegrass are the perfect embodiment of where this sound is today. The Michigan-based quintet, comprised of Paul Hoffman (mandolin), Dave Bruzza (guitar), Anders Beck (dobro, lap steel), Michael Bont (banjo) and Mike Devol (upright bass), approaches their arrangements from an improvisational rock perspective. The band will bring their penchant for veering off the beaten path during their live performances to the stage at Brooklyn Bowl, taking the audience on a psychedelic musical journey (shows: 8pm, admission: $15).
