"Technicolored Powerhouse" (NYLON) Ariana And The Rose Debuts First New Music Of 2018Anthem For Inclusivity "Lonely Star" Out Now
In the past, Ariana and the Rose has been called a "beloved indie pop guru" by Paper Mag, a "synthpop purveyor" by Billboard, and a "technicolored powerhouse" by Nylon, and today she backs up all of these claims with her first new music of 2018, a song that feels like the galactic heart-pounding meeting ground between Kate Bush and Robyn.
The first of several new tracks to come from Ariana over the next few months, "Lonely Star" finds Ariana further evolving into a full creative force, building a sound inspired by everything from the magical realism of Haruki Murakami, the energy of the 90s club scene, artists that thrive in the grey area of musical genres (ie Solange and Christine and the Queens), and the juxtaposition of glamor and raw authenticity found in pop icons like Cher and Madonna.
Promoting a message of community and inclusivity, "Lonely Star" builds from its whispered first verse into a sonic eruption of synth strings, an unrelenting beat, and Ariana's vocals that swim through its empowering lyrics that were inspired by another creative project of Ariana's -- her immersive music event series "light + space" which has grown to become a NYC night staple over the past year.
At the end of the chorus, Ariana belts "Honey, you're home, we're not alone," echoing the inspiration she gained from putting on the "light + space" events: "The shows have such a hopeful and inclusive energy while also being glitter filled and galactic," said Ariana. "I wanted to capture all of that in a song."
To date, Ariana and the Rose has accrued 4.2 million streams across Spotify and Apple Music, with 3 million views on Youtube. She has earned praise for her music from the likes of Vice Noisey, Billboard, Complex, Paper Magazine, and Nylon, while her 'light + space' parties have become a word-of-mouth sensation, with the last party reaching over 1.2 million people on Instagram. She has performed all over the world, including at SXSW, and has had her music featured in Freeform's "The Bold Type" and a commercial for Too Faced Cosmetics.
