The Rock and Roll Playhouse Announces New York Winter 2018 Season of "Rock & Roll For Kids" at Brooklyn Bowl, Garcia's at The Capitol Theatre, and Industry City

(New York, NY): Brooklyn Bowl, Garcia's at The Capitol Theatre, and Industry City have announced the winter 2018 season of The Rock and Roll Playhouse's "Rock & Roll For Kids," a family concert series on Saturdays and Sundays. The ninth season will feature the music of the Ramones, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, Dave Matthews, Hamilton the musical, the Grateful Dead, the Beatles and more. This week, the Playhouse also announced its inaugural shows in Philadelphia at the Ardmore Music Hall, with three dates in January and February.
The Rock and Roll Playhouse is a weekly children's music workshop-series that creates "a space within which they can discover new comfort zones with and around music" (WHERE IN New York). Created by entrepreneur and owner of The Capitol Theatre and Brooklyn Bowl, Peter Shapiro, and Amy Striem, a certified early childhood and elementary teacher, The Rock and Roll Playhouse uses music to educate children and explore their creativity. Since its founding in 2013, the Rock and Roll Playhouse has hosted over 400 concerts exploring the music of different decades and genres, from David Bowie to Bob Marley to the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Elton John.
Past special guests Questlove, Phil Lesh, Joe Russo, Ross James, DJ Cochon De Lait, Alyssa Cowitt, The Terrapin Family Band, Stella Blues Band, and StevenSteven (Steven Drozd of The Flaming Lips and Steve Burns, original host of Blues Clues) have all joined the party to perform for, educate, and inspire young music fans.
The idea for The Playhouse came to Shapiro, a parent of two young children, after he discovered first-hand a lack of regular programming in New York City that combined his passion for live music and his family. He collaborated with Striem, then an administrator at his daughter's nursery school, to help fill this void that they felt many other parents also shared. Using the songs created by the most iconic musicians in rock history, The Rock and Roll Playhouse offers its core audience of three to eight-year-olds games, movement, stories, and an opportunity to rock out. The Rock and Roll Playhouse is an early and often first introduction to a child's lifelong journey with live music and rock 'n' roll.

Brooklyn Bowl's doors open at 11:00AM, shows begin at 11:30AM, and admission is $12. Garcia's doors open at 2:30PM, shows begin at 3:00PM and admission is $12. Industry City shows begin with storytime and activities at 12:30PM, concerts are from 1:00PM-2:00PM and end with dance and music activities from 2:00PM-2:30PM, and events are free. Children under one are free for all shows.

About The Capitol Theatre:
Designed by celebrated architect Thomas Lamb in 1926 and listed in The National Register of Historic Places, the Capitol is located 30 miles from NYC, accessible by I-95 and only one block from the Port Chester Metro North train station. The 2,000-capacity theater, known as "the original rock palace,' showcased rock legends such as Black Sabbath, Chuck Berry, David Bowie, Derek and the Dominos, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd, and The Rolling Stones. Jerry Garcia once called it his favorite venue, claiming "See, there's only two theaters, man... that are set up pretty groovy all around for music and for smooth stage changes, good lighting and all that - the Fillmore and The Capitol Theatre. About Industry City
It started in the 1890s when Irving T. Bush began to build a monumental intermodal manufacturing, warehousing and distribution center in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Due to its prominent location, immense scale, and structure that supported a wide spectrum of businesses, Industry City (then known as Bush Terminal) flourished. It quickly became one of most successful facilities of its type, employing nearly 25,000 workers per day and enabling Brooklyn to become a major international seaport.
By the 1960s, urban manufacturing had started its long decline. Most of Industry City's major manufacturers - most notably the legendary Topps Baseball Card company - closed their doors or moved away, and Industry City suffered through a period of disinvestment and decay for 40 years.
In 2013, this all changed. A new ownership group, led by Belvedere Capital and Jamestown, began to redevelop Industry City. Over the past two years, Industry City has leased more than two million square feet of space and created over 2,000 jobs, capitalizing on the rapidly emerging innovation economy.
