The Rock And Roll Playhouse Expands Winter/Spring Programming With Three New Venues, Special Guests And Fresh Musical Themes
Early Spring Season Includes Brooklyn Bowl Nashville Debut, Special Brooklyn Bowl NY Shows and Phil Lesh Birthday CelebrationsThe family-minded live event series The Rock and Roll Playhouse is always searching for new ways to inspire creativity and foster a relationship between children and music. Today, they’re building upon an inspiring series of shows by completing their early Spring programming with new venues, special guests and fresh musical events in Nashville, Brooklyn, Chicago, San Rafael, and more.
This year, The Rock and Roll Playhouse moves to the Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville, Tennessee, adds the Cubby Bear as a third venue in Chicago, Illinois and will debut at The Varsity Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, California. Included in the early spring schedule are a number of shows celebrating Grateful Dead musician Phil Lesh’s birthday, Purim Celebrations alongside the organization Because Jewish, a nationwide run of Purple Party shows honoring the music of Prince and a Nashville Mother’s Day celebration in addition to to a star-studded lineup of musical guests performing under The Rock and Roll Playhouse umbrella. Mike Greenfield of Lotus, Ben Carrey of Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Tom McKee of Let’s Danza and Mark Diomede of Juggling Suns will all be performing at RRPH’s Philadelphia show later this month and Los Colognes will hit the stage to welcome RRPH to their new home at Brooklyn Bowl Nashville in March.
In addition, Brooklyn Bowl New York will host two very special performances this spring. The Rock and Roll Playhouse has partnered with Winter Jazzfest to host the very first Jazz for Kids event on Saturday, January 18 at Brooklyn Bowl New York and will later present their Broadway Rock for Kids show featuring musicians directly from Broadway in March. This year’s early 2020 programming is just the latest expansion of RRPH’s ever-evolving musical palette. Perhaps the greatest element of a RRPH show is the element of surprise and bewilderment a child can experience. Luckily, there are always more special guests and surprises to be announced. About The Rock and Roll Playhouse
The Rock and Roll Playhouse is a national concert series for families where kids can “move, play and sing while listening to works form the classic-rock canon” (NY Times). The Playhouse was founded in 2013 at its flagship venue, Brooklyn Bowl, by Peter Shapiro, entrepreneur and co-owner of the Bowl and owner of The Capitol Theatre, and Amy Striem, a certified Early Childhood and Elementary teacher, who were looking to create opportunities for families to experience live music together in historic music venues. The Rock and Roll Playhouse shows use music from the most iconic musicians in musical history to inspire the next generation of children. It's core audience of kids under 10 explore their creativity dancing to live music from curated local bands, listening to stories, and playing interactive activities. With over 50,000 concert attendees in 2018 and 1,000 shows to date, The Rock and Roll Playhouse hosts concerts in 27 venues across 25 cities and explores the music of 5 generations and diverse genres, while giving back to local communities. The program has donated to the Can’d Aid Foundation’s Tunes Programs, VH1 Save the Music Foundation, and Keep the Music Alive, as well as ticket donations to local school fundraisers and auctions.
