The Wailers, Diamond Rugs, Pimps Of Joytime, And Delicate Steve Hit Brooklyn Bowl In April

Brooklyn Bowl — called “New York City’s mecca of bowling, food, and entertainment” by the New York Observer — will welcome two nights of reggae from The Wailers and a set of  “fluid, seamless rock” (American Songwriter) from “indie supergroup” (Paste) Diamond Rugs as part of their April line-up.

Dumpstaphunk - Fri, Apr 3
Dumpstaphunk will hit the stage at Brooklyn Bowl for a live show that combines strong musicianship, complex funk, and jazz arrangements with soulful melodies that are simple enough for everyone to enjoy.  The five piece band tosses lead vocals and four-part harmonies like Sly & the Family Stone, but with three studio albums under their belt, Dumpstaphunk stands on the merit of their own material. Songs like “Dancin’ To The Truth” off their latest record, Dirty Word, offer an escape into the funky sublime and share the true spirit of New Orleans with every note (shows: 9:00pm, admission: $20).

The Wailers - Wed-Thu, Apr 8-9
The Wailers, who are best known for their work as Bob Marley’s backing musicians, will perform two special nights of music at Brooklyn Bowl featuring full performances of their iconic albums 'Legend' (April 8th) and 'Exodus' (April 9th). To date, The Wailers have sold over a quarter billion albums, earned the honor of “album of the century” from Time Magazine, and performed at major music festivals around the world including Lollapalooza, Glastonbury, and Rothbury - cementing themselves as the most influential band in Jamaican music history (shows: 8:00pm, admission: $17-20).

Pimps of Joytime - Fri, Apr 10
The Pimps of Joytime were born out of frontman Brian J’s desire to layer his broad range of musical influences -- soul, funk, blues and rock n' roll -- within the freedom of an unapologetic dance groove. Since 2007, the Brooklyn based group has grown from playing basement parties down the street to headlining more than 100 shows each year, with stops along the festival circuit at Bonnaroo, High Sierra, Outside Lands, and more. The Pimps' debut record 'High Steppin' dropped in 2008 to praise from NPR for their “funk laden style," followed by their sophomore release 'Janxta Funk!' in 2011 (shows: 8:00pm, admission: $15).

Diamond Rugs - Sat, Apr 11
“Indie supergroup" (Paste Magazine) Diamond Rugs is composed of Deer Tick’s John McCauley and Robbie Crowell, ex-Black Lips guitarist Ian St. Pé, T. Hardy Morris of Dead Confederate, Six Finger Satellite drummer Bryan Dufresne, and Los Lobos’ Steve Berlin, who first came together in 2011 to record their self-titled debut and reconvened this year for their 2015 album ‘Cosmetics.’  Consequence of Sound describes their sound to be “all about letting loose and having fun” and American Songwriter praises them for their "fluid, seamless rock and roll that shows each player doing some of his best work.”  The band will bring the more “pop-rock-heavy sound” (Glide Magazine) from their latest release for a night of “gritty fun” at Brooklyn Bowl (show: 8:00pm, admission: $15).

Funky Meters - Fri, Apr 17
Formed during an informal jam during the 1989 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Art Neville, George Porter Jr., and Russell Batiste Jr., founded what would be the core of the Funky Meters.  The Funky Meters have grooved their way around the globe, toured with such talents as The Rolling Stones and been a studio band for a diverse list of artists like Paul McCartney, Robert Palmer, and Patti Labelle.  The Funky Meters will bring their trademark sound that blends funk and blues to the stage at Brooklyn Bowl for a night of dance grooves with a New Orleans vibe (show: 8:00pm, admission: $20).

John Brown's Body - Mon, Apr 20
Eight piece band John Brown's Body is know for their explosive live shows that boast super heavy rhythms, a three-piece horn section, air-tight drum and bass, and "the most gorgeous melodies in all of modern reggae music" (All Music Guide).  The band uses reggae as a foundation, but incorporates dub, drum & bass, dancehall, hip hop and other musical explorations to create a timeless and forward sound. John Brown's Body will hit the stage at Brooklyn Bowl to perform music from their latest album 'Amplify' (2008) - which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Reggae Chart - as well as their new EP 'JBB In Dub' (2014) (show: 8:00pm, admission: $12).

Delicate Steve - Thu, Apr 23
Delicate Steve is the moniker of musician Steve Marion, a multi-instrumentalist originally hailing from Fredon, New Jersey who leads the band of the same name.  Delicate Steve's sound has been described as "a kaleidoscope of bouncy pan-African polyrhythms and swooping six-string melodies” (SPIN), but their greatest strength is their "live shows, thanks in no small part to main man Steve Marion's guitar skills” (Brooklyn Vegan).  The band is currently on tour with Tame Impala to promote their first live album ‘Live in Las Vegas,’ but are hitting the stage at Brooklyn Bowl to perform a solo show (show: 8:00pm, admission: $12).

Dopapod - Fri-Sat, Apr 24-25
Boston born Dopapod has come a long way from their college basement, DIY party roots. While maintaining the grassroots vibe of their humble beginnings, the group has earned praise from JamBase who describe their sound as "dance grooves mixed with complex harmonies and distinct melodies” and The Huffington Post who call them "a band that can make you dance even when you don't feel like dancing.”  In the past four years they have performed 150 live shows, including numerous festival appearances like Wakarusa, Electric Forest, Peach Fest, and Gathering Of the Vibes - and will come to the stage at Brooklyn Bowl to perform music from their forth studio album, 'Never Odd or Even' (shows: 9:00pm, admission: $15-20).
