Black Box is a modern marketing agency built for the music industry. Its vision is to help clients cultivate engaged audiences through strategic branding, marketing, and partnerships. The agency provides custom solutions for labels, publishers, managers, and artists, all guided by a digital-first mindset. The philosophy is simple: know yourself, know your fans, build your business.
The company's current roster represents over 30 artists spanning from Brian Kelley, Estelle, Galimatias, Ice Nine Kills, Maoli, maryjo, Dirty Heads, Hudson Westbrook and clients including Red Light Management, River House Artists, and Saban Music Partners. Launched in 2014, Black Box is based in Los Angeles, CA and Nashville, TN.
LIVIA TORTELLA
Founder & CEO, Black Box
Livia Tortella is the founder and CEO of Black Box.
A music entertainment executive with a track record for developing artists and driving digital innovation, Livia has taken her career from PolyGram Canada to Island Def Jam Music Group, Atlantic Records, and on to Co-President of Warner Bros. Records in Los Angeles.
Known for her expertise in music marketing, artist development, content creation, motion picture soundtracks, and release strategy, Livia has an intimate understanding of all facets of the music industry. She has worked closely with both chart-toppers and emerging artists and continually seeks new ways to build and engage their audiences.
Her dedication to artists’ careers, combined with her belief in the new music economy, inspired her to create Black Box.
BRIAN POPOWITZ
General Manager, Black Box
Brian Popowitz is the General Manager at Black Box, a modern music marketing agency that develops, grows, and breaks artists through digital branding, strategy and partnerships.
Popowitz began his career in music while completing a self-designed BA in “Music Industry & Society” at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD. Working up from internships, street team work and DJing, Popowitz eventually established himself as a digital marketing guru at a number of major and independent labels including Geffen/Universal, Drive-Thru Records and Nettwerk. In 2011, he became the Director of Digital Marketing at Warner Bros. Records, where he met Black Box founder and CEO Livia Tortella.
