Biography View
Kerry Docherty is the author of the memoir Selfish: Unlearning, Reclaiming, and Telling the Truth and her children's book Somewhere, Right Now, featuring art by New York Times bestselling illustrator Suzie Mason and selected for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
She is also the co-founder of the lifestyle clothing brand Faherty, where she serves as Chief Impact Officer and built the brand's impact strategy, centered on community building, sustainability, and creativity. Kerry launched Second Wave, the brand's resale site, to circumvent pre-loved Faherty products from entering landfills, and she started the brand's Native Initiatives strategy to work with Native artists to end appropriation in fashion. She leads yearly impact retreats with artists, activists, and thought leaders. The brand is proudly a B Corp and has been acclaimed for partnering with and donating over a million dollars to Native artists and communities.
Prior to co-founding Faherty Brand, Kerry received her BA from Yale University and her law degree from Pepperdine School of Law, where she focused on human rights and social justice. She clerked for the American Civil Liberties Union and for a federal judge in Brooklyn. She later started her own mindfulness coaching business, where she led workshops and built curricula around using meditation as a tool for healing.
She lives with her husband and two children on the New Jersey shore. She and her family also own Sun & Waves cafe, which serves as a community hub and offers fresh and healthy food options. In her downtime, she is constantly looking for sea glass on any beach she can find.
