Jacob Sartorius Cries Out For Closure On “Makeup Your Mind”
Follows Jacob’s “strong [and] unabashedly introspective” (American Songwriter) ‘SLEEP WHEN I’M DEAD’ EPToday (10.5), musician, filmmaker, actor, and social media force Jacob Sartorius shares “Makeup Your Mind.” A play on words on superficiality and the need for closure on a rocky relationship, the alt-pop standout finds Jacob contemplating: “you don’t need no makeup you just gotta make up your mind. Is it fake love? Do you feel you’re wasting your time?”
Written by Jacob, Isabella Sjöstrand (Machine Gun Kelly, Social House, Jojo), Gustav Landell, Simon Jonasson and Anton Göransson (Trippie Redd, Icona Pop, Ariana Grande), the track is a universal message of self-love, and it’s what’s on the inside that really counts.
“I wrote “Makeup Your Mind” about getting closure; that feeling of frustration when you know how you feel about someone but they don’t know how they feel about you, says Jacob. “The play-on-words really is a reminder that you are beautiful and to love yourself, with 'makeup' referencing something superficial and 'make up' something much deeper.”
Later this month, Jacob – who recently celebrated his 20th birthday – will make his major film debut in The Loneliest Boy in the World. Out in select theaters on October 14th and on demand and digital on October 18th, the film (starring Max Harwood, Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Ashley Benson) is a satire and a celebration of family values, the imagery of horror films, suburban life, the American Dream and the ultimate taboo; death.
“Makeup Your Mind” follows Jacob’s SLEEP WHEN I’M DEAD EP. “A tangible time capsule of Sartorius’s ever-evolving career" (American Songwriter) – which spans nearly a decade and has earned him more than 39 million combined followers – the five-track project is “unabashedly introspective” (American Songwriter), following Jacob’s life while learning to navigate LA on his own. Entirely co-written by Jacob, the project blurs the lines between pop and alt-rock, pulling from Jacob’s variety of influences ranging from Blink182 to Blackbear to Justin Bieber – listen here.
