La Marisoul and Los Texmaniacs/ ‘Corazones and Canciones’/ Smithsonian Folkways

On April 7th, GRAMMY-winning artists Eva Marisol “La Marisoul” Hernández (of LA-based band La Santa Cecilia) and San Antonio-based Tejano conjunto Los Texmaniacs will release their next album, Corazones and Canciones, together on Smithsonian Folkways. A 15-song collection of generation-spanning Mexican-American classics from all over the US (Los Canciones), the album celebrates the love, joy, and the ineffable feeling that music can evoke, while simultaneously shining a light on the importance of Mexican-American music within the overall American Roots tradition. This music makes clear that Mexican-American music isAmerican music with life-affirming energy and passion. Ranging in sound from dancehall and conjunto polka-beats to romantic Tejano guitar (all accented by La Marisoul’s booming, soulful vocals, and Los Texmaniacs’ exuberant playing), each song was chosen for its heart, emotional potential, and ability to connect people across age, place, and time (Los Corazones).

Rising Americana star William Prince announces the April 14 release of his new album Stand in the Joy. Produced by GRAMMY-winner Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile), the album finds Prince’s storytelling gifts in full bloom, sketching songs that hit hard with plaintive detail and precise emotional expression. In these 10 songs, Prince works to embrace life’s small beauties, unburdened by past mistakes and circumstances. It’s an open-hearted work that’s evidence of a songwriter coming into his own, not only as a master of their craft but as an actualized person.

Mathew V/ ‘Anything Goes’/ 603 Records

Vancouver-based singer Mathew V announces ‘Anything Goes,’ a new record that seeks to reframe the assumed heteronormative narratives of the Great American Songbook. Due out April 14 on 604 Records, ‘Anything Goes’ takes standards by the likes of Cole Porter, George Gershwin, and Henry Mancini and draws out queer perspectives from the elegant imprecision of their timeless lyrics.

Caleb Elliott/ ‘Weed, Wine And Time’/ Single Lock Records

Caleb Elliott is sharing his Weed, Wine and Time this spring, the Muscle Shoals musician's new eleven-song collection out April 14 via Southern independent music staples Single Lock Records. Celebrated as a go-to session man and songwriter in his thriving hometown music community, Elliott steps to center stage on Weed, Wine and Time to share gripping vignettes culled from his own observed experiences and upbringing in small-town Louisiana. He uses his rich authenticity to share stories of adversity - and of the communal beliefs that too-often serve as their catalysts - but most interesting to Elliott is how we find it in ourselves to overcome these adversities. The album's title may offer an effective (if only half-joking) quick fix, for certain, but these songs take a profound deep dive into the rich and nuanced wisdom he's learned along the way.

There are so many memories folded into these songs for us and for everyone who came to the shows,” Fran reflects of the tour. “The tracklisting on this album worked really great live so we decided to record and film the final show in Glasgow. There is always a chance I'll get a sore throat when I know there is a taping coming up, but thankfully it all went without a hitch. I think it was the best we played the album that night.”
