Neko Case/ ‘Hell-On’/ Anti-

Dave Alvin + Jimmie Dale Gilmore

Dave Alvin & Jimmie Dale Gilmore/ ‘Downey To Lubbock’/ Yep Roc


The first-ever musical collaboration between these folk heroes and lifelong friends is an odyssey across America’s musical history. Alvin, the founder of the seminal punk-roots band The Blasters, and Gilmore, of the pioneering country-folk trio The Flatlanders, team up to cover a diverse range of rock ’n’ roll. The new album also features two new originals, the autobiographical title track and the fantastical “Billy The Kid And Geronimo.”

This celebratory and defiant new LP signals a significant artistic leap and a stunning snapshot of a musician in a state of personal rediscovery and surging femininity. Working again with Matthew E. Kesha and Macklemore – The Forum (LA, CA)


The two trailblazing artists team up for ‘The Adventures of Kesha and Macklemore' co-headlining tour, a summer trek of amphitheaters and arenas across North America. With her trademark swagger and playful snarl, Kesha performs a set of her past global hits, her show-stopping current single "Praying" and other songs from Rainbow (Kemosabe Records/RCA Records) with her band. Matt Simons – Baby’s All Right (Brooklyn, NY)


The Brooklyn-based pop prodigy plays AWAL's debut Northside Festival party, a night featuring a lineup of emerging talent. Simons' virtuosic piano and guitar playing find a blissful middle ground between Ed Sheeran and George Ezra, but he's also honed the vignette-style lyricism of James Bay, Hozier and Leon Bridges. Angelique Kidjo

Angélique Kidjo/ ‘Remain In Light’/ Kravenworks Records


The Benin-born global pop star, three-time GRAMMY winner and “Africa’s greatest living diva” (NPR) partners with super producer Jeff Bhasker (Rihanna, Kanye West, Harry Styles, Bruno Mars, Drake, Jay-Z) to reclaim rock for Africa and bring the Talking Heads' landmark 1980 album full circle. Kidjo injects this track-by-track re-imagining with her euphoric singing, explosive percussion, horn orchestration and select lyrics performed in languages from her home country.

Henry Jamison – Rough Trade (Brooklyn, NY)


Vice Noisey, American Songwriter, World Cafe and more have been vocal fans of Vermont's "millennial transcendentalist" and his debut LP, The Wilds (Akira Records), a record equally inspired by his familial connections to Chaucer and the electro-folk of James Blake. On tour, Jamison is joined by a full band and performs songs from The Wilds and tease unreleased material.

Ariana and the Rose — House of Yes (Brooklyn, NY)


Having sold out its debut last November, Ariana and the Rose brings “light + space” back to the celebrated Bushwick-based creative space for a three-event residency. Self-described as “Studio 54 in outer space,” the immersive music experience spotlighted by New York Magazine, HuffPost, and Time Out NY consists of interactive theater, a DJ set and a live performance by Ariana.

Brent Cowles/ ‘How To Be Okay Alone’/ Dine Alone Records


Cowles scribbled the phrase ‘How To Be Okay Alone’ in a notebook one day, hoping he’d find the answer. The result from that period of self-examination, and six days recording at Joshua Tree, is his solo debut, a raucous yet reflective 10-song collection that deals with love, loneliness and community. Cowles has already made fans of Paste and NPR, which chose him as a 2018 Slingshot artist and praised his "high-energy, thoughtful rock 'n' roll."

Nick Lowe

Nick Lowe/ ‘Tokyo Bay / Crying Inside’/ Yep Roc


Lowe’s new EP, featuring two new originals and Dionne Warwick and Cliff Richard covers, is his first release of new music in half a decade and inspired NPR to say, “The man who dubbed his 1978 debut album Jesus of Cool proves definitively that rock and roll isn’t just a young man’s game.” Los Straitjackets, Lowe’s labelmates and frequent touring partners, back him on all the songs.

Mandolin Orange – BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival (Brooklyn, NY)


One of the most accomplished duos in roots music today opens for The Jayhawks at the Prospect Park Bandshell as part of the free BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival. North Carolinian multi-instrumentalists and singers Emily Frantz and Andrew Marlin blend traditional roots storytelling with sharp social critique, and they have been praised by Rolling Stone Country (“lush”), NPR Music (“sweet, angelic harmonies”) and more.

Dillon Carmichael – Rockwood Stage 2 (NYC)


The Kentucky native with “a voice that moves with the heft and certainty of a tractor-trailer” (New York Times) makes his NYC performing debut with a solo show. Rolling Stone Country praises Carmichael’s single “It’s Simple” as “a rare breed.” His debut LP, Hell On An Angel, is out 8/17 via Riser House Records.

The New Orleans-based songwriter performs music from new album False River (5/25), a collection of songs inspired by Ralph Waldo Emerson’s essay “Self Reliance” and Delta blues. Barbara Dane – Joe’s Pub (NYC)


One of the unsung champions of American music – cited by Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt and others as inspiration – plays her first NYC show in 15 years. Dane, who will be 91 years old, celebrates the release of Barbara Dane: 60 Years of Hot Jazz, Cool Blues and Hard-Hitting Songs, a two-disc retrospective released by Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, and the Tammy Hall trio and Osamu and Pablo Menendez will join her onstage.

Somewhere between an EP and an album is Cauthen’s vision of what the truth sounds like in a polarized world. The Nashville band uses its “high-energy garage rock” (Rolling Stone) and Nick Brown’s “beautiful, thrusting snarl” (New York Times) to promote positivity on its empowering new record. Ben Rector/ ‘Magic’/ OK Kid Recordings/ AWAL Recordings


Since his last album, Rector has had a breakout Top 5 radio hit, “Brand New,” and has become a father. These changes drive Rector’s positive and hopeful new album, full of piano-driven pop songs both nostalgic and forward-thinking with stylistic nods to Huey Lewis and the News. The album features GRAMMY-winning songwriter Dan Wilson (co-write on “Sometimes”) and Steve Stevens (guitarist for Billy Idol, Michael Jackson and the theme of 1986’s Top Gun), with production by John Fields (Goo Goo Dolls, All Time Low) and Tony Hoffer (Beck, Air, M83).

Priscilla Renea/ ‘Coloured’/ Thirty Tigers


The Florida-born artist has penned hits for Rihanna, Mary J. Blige, Pitbull, Fifth Harmony, Madonna, Demi Lovato, Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert and others for more than a decade – now the powerhouse vocalist tells her own story with her own music. This 10-song collection brings together top hip-hop producers (Honorable C.N.O.T.E., Curtis “Sauce” Wilson, Theron Feemster) with Nashville’s top songwriters (Ashley Gorley, Kevin Kadish) to help Renea create a bold and lush sound spanning classic R&B, dark-edged country and urban-soul.

MONA – Summer NAMM 2018 (Nashville)
