Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams/ ‘Contraband Love’/ Red House Records


Campbell and Williams, “The First Couple of Americana” (MOJO), tackle betrayal, addiction and acceptance on the Campbell-produced follow-up to their critically lauded 2015 debut. Special guests on the album include Little Feat’s Bill Payne and The Lumineers’ Byron Isaacs, and Levon Helm makes one of his final recorded appearances on a version of Carl Perkins’ “Turn Around.”

Gregory W. Brown/ ‘Missa Charles Darwin’/ PARMA Recordings/Navona Records


In advance of brother Dan Brown’s forthcoming novel, Origin, the award-winning composer re-releases his acclaimed 2011 piece featured in the novel with a special edition deluxe package and remastered audio. The composition is structured like a liturgical Mass, with Brown painstakingly translating DNA sequences and markers into musical phrases set to texts by Charles Darwin, simultaneously commemorating the scientist’s genius while interrogating the relationship between faith and reason.

Herb Alpert/ ‘The Christmas Wish’/ Herb Alpert Presents


The nine-time GRAMMY winner celebrates the most wonderful time of the year with his first holiday album in five decades. Alpert enlists a 45-piece orchestra and 32-member choir to back his iconic trumpet sound on favorites like “Santa Baby” and “Merry Christmas Darling,” which features an appearance by the song’s composer, Richard Carpenter. The legendary Paul Williams penned lyrics for the title track, a new Alpert original.
