grandson/ ‘I Love You, I’m Trying’/ Fueled By Ramen

Genre-smashing alternative artist grandson announces his new album I Love You, I’m Trying out May 5th via Fueled By Ramen. Where his past work tackled political and social issues in nature, the new album turns the lens definitely inward resulting in a 12 track collection of grandson’s most personal and vulnerable songwriting to date.

“I’m painting the intimate portrait of myself I know how – covering themes of self harm, family trauma, the hidden side of life on the road, and so much more,” grandson shares. “This is the album that 16 year old me needed. This is the album I was scared to write and the album fans of mine deserve to hear. Above all this is the album where I face a big question: can I handle the changes life throws at me, and if this all that there is to life, can it be enough to be happy?”

Lake Nakoma/ self-titled/ Single Lock Records

A collaboration years in the making from Alabama Shakes guitarist Heath Fogg and fellow Athens, AL musician Colin Woltmann - Lake Nakoma developed their dreamlike sonic world with help from community members like Fogg's Alabama Shakes bandmate Zac Cockrell, keyboardist/engineer Ben Tanner (Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit, Nicole Atkins) and drummer Derrek Phillips (Alison Krauss, Hank Williams Jr., Dr. John). Initially uniting to work on Woltmann's solo material, the pair quickly realized how well-suited they were for collaboration - finding an almost-uncanny symmetry between Fogg's guitar arrangements and Woltmann's vocal delivery. The results radiate powerfully and impeccably throughout their self-titled debut album, which comes May 9 via the Muscle Shoals-based, GRAMMY and Libera-winning independent label Single Lock Records.

Damir Imamović/ ‘The World And All That It Holds’/ Smithsonian Folkways

On May 19, Bosnian singer and composer Damir Imamović will release his first album on Smithsonian Folkways, The World and All That It Holds. Produced by the renowned Joe Boyd (Nick Drake, Fairport Convention, Pink Floyd) and Balkan music expert Andrea Goertler and recorded by Grammy-winning engineer Jerry Boys in Sarajevo, the album draws from and expands upon the traditional Bosnian style of sevdah while serving as a companion to Aleksandar Hemon’s new novel of the same name. In Hemon’s highly acclaimed novel, which the Washington Post called “brilliant” and Cloud Atlas author David Mitchell dubbed a “masterpiece,” the two protagonists, propelled far from Sarajevo by the Great War, sing to each other to express their love and longing for home. Imamović’s album, at times exuberant and at times mournful, soundtracks their story.

Kesha

Kesha/ ‘Gag Order’/ Kemosabe/RCA Records

Kesha announces her new album ‘Gag Order’, set to drop May 19th (via Kemosabe/RCA Records), an album that finds the GRAMMY-nominated pop star excavating the deepest recesses of her soul to date. The Rick Rubin-produced record, which Kesha has labeled “post-pop”, is a full-bodied collection that flows like a stream-of-conscious journey through the psychedelic dark depths of the human psyche followed by basking in the cleansing light when finally reaching the surface.
