Todd Snider/ ‘Eastside Bulldog’/ Aimless Records/Thirty Tigers


The gonzo outlaw’s first solo album in four years brings back Elmo Buzz, Snider’s alter ego who loves chicks, cars and partying and hates folk music and Todd Snider. The freewheeling record, mostly recorded on the spot, was co-produced by Grammy-winning collaborator Eric McConnell (Loretta Lynn, Kris Kristofferson).

The UK hitmaker, who has sold over 40 million records, releases his first album in the US in more than 20 years. Every track is written, performed and produced by Astley, returning to his deeply soulful and gospel-inflected roots.

Katie Melua/ ‘In Winter’/ BMG


One of the UK's most successful recording artists of the millennium traveled to her native homeland of Georgia and set up a DIY studio to record the 25-piece Gori women's choir for this celebration of the winter season. Songs range from Joni Mitchell and Rachmaninoff to a Ukrainian carol and ethereal originals inspired by Georgia's civil war and the commercialism of the holidays.

David Bromberg/ ‘The Blues, The Whole Blues, And Nothing But The Blues’/ Red House Records


The decorated multi-instrumentalist and godfather of Americana returns with his first album in three years, a tastefully curated collection of original compositions and deep cuts from the greatest names in blues. Produced by longtime Levon Helm collaborator Larry Campbell, the record features crack band takes of songs by Robert Johnson, Bobby Charles, Sonny Boy Williamson and more.
