Terri Lyne Carrington/ ‘new STANDARDS vol. 1’/ Candid Records
Inter-disciplinary artist, activist and educator, Terri Lyne Carrington has worked tirelessly over the last decade to advocate for inclusivity and raise the voice of women, trans and non-binary people in jazz. New Standards, her ambitious new endeavor, was created to shine a light on women composers in historic new ways. New Standards will arrive this fall in the form of a groundbreaking lead sheet book of jazz compositions dedicated entirely to women composers, a newly recorded album of 11 selections from the songbook featuring an all-star band and superb line-up of special guests, and a dynamic multi-media exhibition at Detroit’s Carr Center.
On September 16 Carrington will release new STANDARDS vol. 1 on the relaunched Candid Records label, featuring recordings of 11 selections from the New Standards lead sheets book (see below for more info). Carrington on drums, is joined by a core band of Kris Davis (piano), Linda May Han Oh (bass), Nicholas Payton (trumpet), and Matthew Stevens (guitar and co-producer) and welcomes special guests Ambrose Akinmusire, Melanie Charles, Ravi Coltrane, Val Jeanty, Samara Joy, Julian Lage, Michael Mayo, Elena Pinderhughes, Dianne Reeves, Negah Santos and Somi. The selections include harpist Brandee Younger’s “Respected Destroyer,” clarinetist Anat Cohen’s “Ima,” vocalist Abbey Lincoln’s “Throw It Away” as well as pieces by Gretchen Parlato, Carla Bley and more. The recordings - which range from vocal ballads to contemporary creative music - are inspired and adventurous and explore the limitless universe of jazz.

Steve Aoki/ ‘HiROQUEST’
2x-Grammy-nominated artist and producer Steve Aoki announces his new full-length album HiROQUEST out September 16, 2022. The highly anticipated record features collaborations with a wide variety of artists in all genres including Taking Back Sunday, Kane Brown, Mod Sun, PnB Rock, Georgia Ku, Bryce Vine, Santa Fe Klan, Lil Xan, Goody Grace, and more. As part of the album release, Aoki is continuing his relationship with MetaZoo Games to create limited edition playing cards available with the purchase of HiROQUEST CDs.

We the Kingdom/ self-titled/ Capitol Christian Music Group
Two-time GRAMMY nominated band We The Kingdom announces its self-titled sophomore album, due September 16 via Capitol Christian Music Group. The group revealed the exciting news on live TV earlier today (7.29), performing on Fox & Friends’ All-American Summer Concert Series. Available for pre-order, the 13-track project, which is a genre-transcending blend of rock, country and gospel, was all written and recorded in group member Ed Cash’s home studio and on tour.

Samara Joy/ ‘Linger Awhile’/ Verve Records
Once-in-a-generation vocalist Samara Joy has signed with Verve Records, and will release Linger Awhile, her full-length debut for the label, on September 16. At just 22 years old, Samara has already garnered critical acclaim for a voice “as rich as custard” (The New York Times) and a delivery that is “disarming [and] unhurried” (NPR Fresh Air), just as she has built a devoted following on TikTok and made avowed fans of Regina King, LaKeith Stanfield, and others. The Bronx native took home the 2019 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition prize while still in college and performed on The Today Show earlier this year. Hailed as an “exciting boundary-stretcher” by the (The Boston Globe), Samara also made her “glowing, auspicious debut” (NPR) at the Newport Jazz Festival last weekend, earning multiple standing ovations in the process.

Lang Lang/ ‘The Disney Book’/ Deutsche Grammophon
In celebration of 100 years of The Walt Disney Company, globally acclaimed piano virtuoso Lang Lang is set to transport listeners into the magical world of snow castles and flying carpets with his latest album, The Disney Book. This enchanting musical journey through iconic movie melodies, reimagined in new versions written especially for him by some of the world’s leading arrangers, invites fans of all ages to enjoy classical music through Lang Lang’s unique interpretations. The recording will be released on 16 September on Deutsche Grammophon, in collaboration with Disney Music Group.

Khruangbin and Vieux Farka / ‘Ali’/ Dead Oceans
Khruangbin and Malian guitarist Vieux Farka Touré today announce their collaborative album Ali honoring Vieux’s late father, Ali Farka Touré. Ali Farka Touré is well known as one of the most influential and talented guitarists that Africa has ever produced. His legacy and impact are hard to overstate. Ali’s sound merged his much-loved traditional Malian musical styles with distinct elements of the blues, singing in the local languages of Songhay, Tamasheq, Fulfulde and Bambara. The result was the creation of a groundbreaking new genre, now well known as the ‘desert blues’, earning him 3 Grammy awards, widespread reverence and the nickname of the ‘African John Lee Hooker’.

Chad Lawson/ ‘breathe’/ Decca Records US
World-renowned pianist Chad Lawson has announced his luminous double album breathe, set for release on September 23 via Decca Records US. Featuring both solo piano compositions and orchestrated arrangements, breathe is a heart-felt invitation to pause and enjoy a cathartic moment of release. Each melody purposefully brushes across the canvas of emotions, allowing a tremendous depth of feeling to shine through every moment. “With this album I really wanted to create something where anyone can sit back, close their eyes, and release everything they’ve been holding inside,” says the NC-based composer, who’s devoted much of the past few years to studying the science behind calming music and its neurological effects. “My hope is that this music can help people exhale and finally let all that go.”

Todd Snider/ ‘Live: Return of the Storyteller’/ Aimless Records / Thirty Tigers
Todd Snider has announced 'Live: Return Of The Storyteller' (out September 23 via Todd's own Aimless Records and Thirty Tigers), a brand new live collection of songs and stories captured during his first performances after venues opened back up last year. With material spanning from his 1994 debut album Songs From The Daily Planet through 2021's First Agnostic Church Of Hope And Wonder, Snider uses much of his storytelling to pay homage to friends gone too soon including John Prine, Jerry Jeff Walker, Neal Casal and Colonel Bruce Hampton. But typical of a Snider live show, his stage banter also veers into one-of-a-kind road tales like conversing with haunted ghost children in California, raising hell with the inventor of Crocs in Montana and misadventures in the woods behind Johnny Cash's house in Tennessee.

Beth Orton/ ‘Weather Alive’/ Partisan Records
English singer/songwriter Beth Orton today announces the September 23 release of her first album in six years and debut for Partisan Records, Weather Alive. For the first time in her career, Orton self-produced the entirety of Weather Alive from her home studio in London. Across eight tracks, Weather Alive hosts an incredible group of collaborators, including jazz poet Alabaster dePlume, The Smile drummer Tom Skinner, multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily and Mercury Prize nominated bassist Tom Herbert of The Invisible. The musicians locked naturally into Orton’s sensibilities, expanding the new sonic world she created with vulnerability and adding nuanced emotional color to the music.

Grammy award-winning British singer and songwriter Joss Stoneannounces her first-ever holiday album, Merry Christmas, Love, out digitally on September 30th via S-Curve/Hollywood Records. A physical CD release will follow on October 21st and Vinyl will be available on November 11th.
