Alash - Kaufman Center (NYC)


For its Origins Series, the World Music Institute presents Alash, a Tuvan group of master throat singers who blend modern styles with traditional Central Asian melodies and instrumentation. Alash will play music from new album Achai (Smithsonian Folkways Recordings), which honors the late Tuva musical ambassador Kongar-ool Ondar.

Tash Sultana - Bowery Ballroom (NYC)


Earlier this year, her first US tour sold out months in advance. Now the 21-year-old Australian phenomenon is back for two nights in the city, with a debut EP, Notion (Mom + Pop), and a sound the New York Times calls “sweetly melodic, raspy and untamed.”

United Palace – ‘Night of the Living Dead’ Screening (NYC)


For its latest “Movies at the Palace,” the recently revived vaudeville movie theatre screens the 1968 zombie classic with a special pre-show tribute to the late George A. Romero, who passed away earlier this year. There will be a zombie makeup station, a zombie parade, and a panel after the film featuring filmmakers Sandy Jimenez, Kenneth Filmer and Alex Horwitz.
